Had a sleep in again today as we were so tired all day yesterday. Never know what time it is anyway with no bloody windows! Takes ages to get sorted in this bedroom as well seeing as though you can't swing a cat!
Took a couple of bags of washing down to the launderette as it's starting to build up now. The lady there just weighed them and it only cost 60HKD (less than £5). It would have only been 45HKD but we had a mix of colours and whites (for anyone staying in Chung King Mansions, the launderette is in the top right corner).
Also, we managed to upload some pictures last night at the Internet cafe in Chung King Mansions. It was 15HKD (just over £1) for 40 mins and the speed of the Internet is really fast (for the geeks: 300-400 Kbps upload speeds). Not going to be able to upload all the pictures we take as it will take way too long, so will just have to pick some out.
Anyway, we grabbed some fruit and water and caught the ferry (Therese had see legs after the 5 minute journey!) then the 260 bus (from exchange square bus terminus) to Repulse Bay which took about 20 mins and cost 10.60HKD each (80p). Grabbed a coffee on the way too and jut shared one...well, we've got to save money so we got a medium which is much cheaper than getting two smalls!
Repulse Bay was really nice and it was really warm today. It's supposed to be the best beach in Hong Kong too. And it is a nice beach, a little bit pebbley until you get closer to the sea, but the view is lovely with little islands around. The sun was burning through the mist and we were sweltering. We didn't go to sunbathe so didn't have towels and things. We stayed on the beach for a bit and just relaxed which was nice. Therese has actually burnt her shoulders and I've got a bit of colour which is better than nothing because by the sounds of it the rains are coming. No worries it will just be like back home.
We caught the bus from there down to Stanley. The buses are just like home but a bit of a more bumpier ride! In Stanley there's a Market, restaurants, shops and a promenade with nice views over the sea again. It was very English though with a few pubs/bars and lots of English food. We had a wander around there and grabbed some late lunch - baked potato with tuna and a mango chicken wrap. Was nice to have something like that to eat for a change.
One thing we've noticed is that a lot of the kids in Hong Kong go to international school and unfortunately for them they have an annoying American accent and are very loud kids!
Took another bus back into the main area of Hong Kong Island, to Causeway Bay. We had a wander around Times Square (not quite like New York!) and Jardine's Bazaar. The Market there wasn't really that good at all - nothing compared to Temple Street. (Lee didn't think the Market was good because it was all clothes and Hair accessories).
Managed to upload some photos this evening. Takes ages and haven't uploaded all of them, just the better ones. Also seen a bit more about this typhoon on the news as well as a sign where we are staying warning residents of the building that "the flag has been hoisted to a level T1". It's just a warning that a typhoon is near. Pretty worried that it's going to affect our flight to Bangkok though.
We decided to eat out in the Market again this evening. We went to Aberdeen Seafood Restaurant. Had a really good meal again. Mussels in garlic and Fu Young which had ham, prawns, onions, spring onions and bean-sprouts in. With two big bottles of beer, it only cost 145HKD (about £11) - nice and cheap. Therese bit into something really hard though and has chipped her back tooth a little bit, we don't want to imagine what it might have been.
Sick of Indians trying to sell me suits and Therese is sick of being asked if she wants a massage. The latest is being asked if we want wacky back...bought a few bags...just kidding!
The Chung King Mansions ground floor, where all the Market shops are, was taken over by police when we got back at about 10pm. Therese decided to go stroke the sniffer dogs - she said to me after, if I go over to them and stroke them then we don't look suspicious...
Therese would like to add: then back to the pod, you have to really like the person you are sharing the room with in this hostel because there is no where to escape. Just like being married. Plus it was lovely to speak to Bri tonight.
Fact of the day - people are a lot fatter in Hong Kong because there is a lot more western food.
