We woke and checked our emails.... Nothing. We cleaned up, packed and skyped home. I checked the news and the bus driver union had made an agreement. The strike was over! I sent an email to Bamba experience for an update and got a reply straight away saying they've booked our bus, the ticket will follow.
We went for a little walk up the high street to get some money out and buy our subway ticket. The man ran around the counter, at the train station, to point out our route, where we needed to get off and on! Lee tried to play the man card by acting like he knew where to go without the mans help.... I listened so we didn't get lost when we come back later with the backpacks. The 2 tickets only cost 5.50 pesos. A taxi is about 50 pesos. We should have been braver and used the subways at the start of the week. They looked so busy and we were a bit over whelmed by the colourful train map. It's a lot easier to use than it looks and probably quicker than a taxi because taxis get stuck in the traffic!
Before we knew it it was nearly 5pm and Maxi's mum was meeting us so we could give the key back.
Maxi had warned us his mum didn't speak a word of English.... I walked out the toilet to Lee playing charades with her.... bed? Sheet? Today?
Maxi's mum rephrased her sentence and I caught "subte" = subway. I through caminamos = We walk then we quit whilst we were ahead and said good bye.
It wasn't too far of a walk to the subte from Maxi's. Pulling our bags along made us notice the tiny tiles paving the streets... Bump, bump, bump.
It was easy getting on and off the train. The bus station is around the corner from the train station so we walked to it, went to the ticket booth and Lee showed his iPad with the details on. The lady said she needs a paper version so I left Lee with the bags and went to find a printer. 2 printouts later and 9 pesos less we were stamped and told where to go to wait for our bus. The bus was scheduled to arrive at 19:15 so we had enough time for food. 2 cheese and ham sandwiches, a bottle of water, cup of coffee and a bottle of coke came to 135 pesos! I went for a walk to get some more water for on the bus. 2 bottles of water and 4 square butties cost 35 pesos... Shop around! I popped them in my bag for breakfast then went outside to wait for the bus. You have to watch the notice board, wait for your bus companies name to come up, the places your going and the platform number. An hour late! Our bus was late but when we finally got on me and Lee had front row seats to the tele. On the tele there were a few risky music videos with girls in thongs so i decided to go asleep. just as i nodded off a man brought a tray to us with a coca cola, hot rice and butternut squash, a bread roll, an egg and ham roll (the roll part was like a jam roly poly sweet sponge - not our cup of tea), a cheese and ham sandwich (made in a strange way where there's 3 slices of bread... Bread, cheese, bread, ham, bread). We didn't know you got food?! They put Men in Black 3 on so we ate and watched the film. After men in black a film called Blocked came on. We managed to watch it all the way through then fell asleep about half an hour later the bus stopped and the lights came on. Turns out it wasn't a direct bus. Stops like this happened every town. At 4am the bus stopped and we were all told to get off the bus. I don't know what happened but we had to get our bags, put them on a new bus and find a seat (most seats had been taken by the time they'd found our bags). Whilst we were waiting for our bags, in the overgrown grass at the side of the road, I saw the biggest cow ever. I don't know whether I was hallucinating but it was huge. I looked up at the sky (not sure whether it was a roll of the eye or to check for other alien cows) the stars were amazing. There was star dust and millions of bright stars twinkling away! We finally got on the new bus and everyone was asleep with bags on the chairs next to them. We had to wake a couple of people up to ask them to move their things so we could sit down. The old man next to me mumbled something in Spanish so I gave him my 'I'm sorry I only speak a little Spanish' line and he laughed and carried on mumbling... It didn't feel like he was saying anything positive so I ignored him and tried to go asleep. It's not easy to sleep with the stops, lights on, shouting to let everyone know where we are. I managed to pass out at one point only to be awaken by the little old man next to me nudging my arm. I looked at him and he said 'dormir' (Spanish for sleep). Seriously! I don't know whether he just wanted to wake me and congratulate me for finally falling asleep, tell me to sleep or whether I was grinding my teeth? Either way it was a tad annoying. He only stayed on one more stop then Lee came and sat next to me. We both fell asleep until 9am the next day.
