We decided to get a taxi today to make sure we got to see more of the city. first stop Caminito. This is where Tango is danced in the street, meat is eaten by all and the buildings are painted in bright beautiful colours. We strolled around taking pics and watching the dancers. We even posed in a cardboard wall with our heads poking through. The woman used brute force to rearrange the position of my head then attached the flowers not only to my hair but to my scalp. She then stepped back with approval and snapped away. Lee looked like he belonged there. A natural tango star!
After Caminito we jumped a taxi to Plaza del mayo. When we got out the taxi we saw police trucks with water cannons and motorcycle police. As we walked to the end of the square we saw there was a protest. We walked past men with dreadlocks smoking weed, clowns smoking weed, people playing the drums smoking weed, people sat on the grass smoking weed... There was a definite trend going on. It was a protest to legalise canabis. I was intrigued so I was wondering through when lee shouted me and had a word with me about wondering off... He was panicking because of the amount of people and police and drugs. To chill him out we went across the road and found god. Seriously he was say on a donkey watching the protest. It was the cathedral. We wondered through the beautiful building then took a few pics of the museum then walked towards the docks. Now that's strange. Apparently it's been modelled based on Liverpool. It's weird! It doesn't feel like your in BA. We took a few pics, went for a walk then headed for the shopping area. It's Nati's birthday tomorrow so we're going out tonight and I can't wear flipflops again. The other night one of Julians friends said 'why are you wearing those? It's winter' fare point my toes had gone blue and were bruised from the barging moshers so
Shopping for shoes was a must before we headed back!
Shoes are expensive in Argentina. I finally bought a pair of boots (380 pesos) then we headed back. We got in about 7:30pm. Nati was due to arrive at 8:00 so we ran around getting ready. When Nati and Maxi arrived we ordered pizza and had a couple of drinks. Nati had been ill all day but was trying to fight it for her birthday night out. Before we knew it it was half 11 and her friends were ringing to find out where she was so we jumped in a taxi and headed to 'Debar' in San Telmo. It was a David Bowie and Queen night so all night videos were played. As we walked in 'i want to break free' came on.... we went straight for the bar then down stairs into a darker, smaller area where Nati's friends were sat waiting. Nati had ordered jugs of beer and glasses so everyone just helped themselves. When the jugs ran low someone else ordered one. Julian arrived with Pedro. Maxi's sister and friends came. Everyone was sat and stood around the table. It was so relaxed and I had a perfect view of the screen so it was like I was at a mini concert! At about 3:30 me, Nati and Lee called it a night. We said goodbye and grabbed a taxi from outside the bar home.
