After leaving guyaquil airport we went to Santiago. We had a couple of hours in the airport so we went dunkin donuts. Lee found a seat whilst I ordered.... I explained I could only speak a little Spanish and managed to order our donut coffee combo but then she asked which donuts.... Aahhh I'm not advanced enough to describe my donut in Spanish and it was too far to point. I went with chocolate... Wow dunkin my donut in my coffee was a taste sensation!
Before we knew it it was time to board the flight to Buenos Aires. The flight was under 2 hours so it flew, literally. It was a short flight but one of the most magical flights I've ever had. We took off as the sun was setting over the Andes. The sky was amazing colours, the mountains were tipped with snow. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I always try to capture things with a picture but it was a little difficult because I was in the middle and didn't know the girl next to the window. She didn't mind me leaning over her because she was in awe of the view too.
We landed in Argentina and it was a quick journey through customs. They took our picture and our thumb prints. Me and Lee tried to speak Spanish, the woman told us to stick to English.... Awkward. We headed for the cash machines near the exit then went to the taxi stand to order and pay for a taxi to Maxi's house. I googled in advance to check what and where to get a taxi from so we knew exactly which stand to go to and how much it should be. From the airport to Caballito. It was 220 pesos.
The taxi driver spoke some English so we were having a Spanglish conversation. He pulled up outside maxi's apartment and the taxi driver waited until we were safe inside. First he'd watched us walk around the corner, then come back. He'd parked outside the door but we didn't see the door number....
Maxi and Nati (our friends who we met in Laos) were waiting for us with a beer and a plate of meat, cheese and olives. His apartment leads to a gorgeous terrace so we were sat outside. Julian came around shortly after we'd arrived (another friend from our travels in Laos and Bangkok). Nati and max speak fluent English, Julian speaks fluent French. They are all argentine so their first language is Spanish. Lee was trying so hard to speak Spanish. Aargh seriously 3 weeks Spanish lessons just isn't enough. We ended up drinking and talking until the early hours then maxi went to his mums and gave us the keys to his apartment. We said we'd stay in Buenos Aires for 1 week so Maxi offered his apartment to us and he moved back to his mums.
