We arrived in Mendoza, got our bags off the bus and jumped in a taxi to a hostel. We were so tired but we wanted to see the town so we left our bags in the room and went for a wonder around.
The first thing we noticed was the canal/river and the water fountains had no water. In Mendoza it doesn't rain very often. The buildings were a mix of modern and old (more modern than old). We read that an earthquake destroyed the majority of Mendozas architecture so very little of the original architecture remains. We spotted subway and (to make life easier) we went in, bought a sub between us and headed for the park to chill out on the grass in the sun and eat. It was warm and we were tired but the grass or the park wasn't as tranquil as we'd hoped so we headed back to the hostel. We'd booked on the 'four hostel get together pizza night' so we decided to have a siesta first.
When we woke we went down to the reception area to meet everyone (turns out it was 2 other people) and headed to the pizza night. We had to get a taxi to the hosting hostel, but we got a receipt for the fare and exchanged it for a bottle of beer. Turns out it was us 4, out of all 4 hostels that took part, that actually wanted to join in. The other 2 were from England (down south) and were really chatty and nice. The pizzas kept coming... I couldn't eat anymore, neither could lee or the other 2 so the hostel staff told us to stand up, pushed the chairs and tables back and made a dance floor.... After stuffing us with pizza and beer we were supposed to dance? We declined so they said tequila time. I don't mind a shot of tequila so I got my lemon and salt ready. The man pulled out vodka. I said that's not tequila to which he replied 'we no have tequila, vodka'. Now vodka I sip with a mixer I can't shoot that for fun nor could the other 3. It got a bit awkward when the barman (who spoke little English btw) told me to turn around then tried to pull my head backwards to pour vodka in my mouth. I was like a ninja and twirled my way out of his grip. Then we all decided to head back to our hostel.
We got back and just headed for bed.
