Saturday we left the hostel at 7:00 and took a 6 hour bus to Deng Feng, home of the Shaolin Temple and Kung Fu. We arrived at 14:00 and were greated by a very lovely family and rather hyper 7 year old! We dropped our bags and were served lunch, a mountain of noodles, way too much food which instantly showed us how hard working the family were into pleasing us. At 15:30, we walked along to visit the Kung Fu Children's Home, the home is run by a lady and a Monk from the Shaolin Temple that specialises in teaching 35 boys Kung Fu, the boys are either orphans or their parents can not afford to send them to school therefore instead they live at the Kung Fu Children's Home which is free and runs off donations, they are obviously very appreciative of our attendance and donations to the school. The children and Master put on a Kung Fu performance for us which was amazing, these boys are very disaplined, after their performance we got to have photos with them and have a go at Kung Fu ourselves, Ben enjoyed learning the moves. We gave them our donation and received Buddha Beads as a thank you in return. We were served delicious dinner, again way too much food, Sasha taught us how to say delicious in mandarin so we could complement the lady which she loved. After dinner we all went to bed.
Sunday we left at 8:30 for our trip to the Shaolin Temple, the birth place of Kung Fu, there was a whole monestry of temples, in the grounds there were trees which had little holes in which we were told were created by finger punching from the monks, and the temple at the top had dips in the ground which we were told were created by the monks stamping their feet! We took 2 boys from the children's home with us for the day and watched another Kung Fu show which we thought they would love as one day that could be them! When we got back we were served yet another feast for lunch, including mashed potato! We chilled for the afternoon and packed our bags, Ben requested more mashed potato for our train journey which the lady made but wouldn't let us pay for which was extremely kind. At 17:30 we took a 2 hour bus to the train station, outside there was some sort of Chinese exercise class so we joined in for 10 minutes which they thought was funny, especially as we all had our heavy bags on. After, we caught the train to Beijing.
