Arrived in Airlie on Saturday morning to bright blue sky and sunshine.......... hooray, the past 4 days of constant rain had began to take its toll. No sooner had we arrived we bumped into Rolly & Ranzie two Canadian guys we had first met on the Blue Mountains tour a few weeks ago! This is the fourth time we have bumped into them totally unexpected! Spent the day at the backpacker haven "Magnums" and got totally wasted on XXXX (when in Rome...). Had to waive goodbye to the guys at 8pm as they were heading on down to Melbourne. That evening we parked the van on the campsite behind the pub/club... big mistake, we were kept awake ALL night. Next morning we were up at 6am and left the site asap. Spent the morning soaking in the atmosphere while Stu moaned that he was never touching a drop of alcohol again (yeah, heard that one before). The afternoon we checked into a really nice "tropical" campsite surrounded by loads of wildlife and spent the afternoon by the pool trying to top up our tans which have almost faded. That evening we had a bbq and some how managed to consume 24 beers between us even though Stu had sworn blind that he was never drinking again! Woke this morning to beautiful blue sky and its HOT! We really want to do the Whitsundays but the cyclone has messed them up a bit so we're debating whether to or not. We'll keep you posted. xxx
