We're on the road to know where..............
Okay so last time we updated the blog we had just arrived in Brisbane, what a s*** whole! The City is naff, the weather was naff and our hostel ever naffer!!! Shame really cos the last few hostels have been wicked, en suite, tv, balcony, fridge, you name it we had it. So faced with another hostel from hell we decided that 9 hostels was enough for us (we've done our bit) so we decided to rent another campervan, whoopie. Its great being back on the open road and having the freedom to go where we want when we want, which has been a real blessing of late cos the weather has been crap. The van is smaller than in NZ but it has a toaster! Its a Hippie Campervan and has worked as chaeper than a private double room in a hostel per night - what a result. It wasn't the fact that the hostels were so naff that we got the van but more the fact that we didnt want to be tide down to a bus route and we were getting sick of unpacking then re packing our bloody backpacks every other day - man those things are heavy!
From Monday to Friday we were stuck in the path of a cyclone and it rained, rained, rained! We left Brisbane on Tuesday afternoon and headed for Nossa Heads taking in the big pineapple on the way (your right Dunc, it is worth a drive past). Noosa was lovely but wet! We saw the King Tide which was a wicked experience and even better as the cyclone made the waves massive. There were hundreds of people on the beach watching the surf yet it was eerily quite. On Wednesday we went to Australia Zoo, it was okay but a zoo's a zoo hey! We did manage to feed the kangaroos (in between the down poors of rain), and cuddle a koala so I guess it wasn't a wasted trip. We also made use of our "fake" student id cards and managed to get in for half price.
Next day we drove to Tin Can Bay, a real small town with not much going on, one pub which we made a bee line for and some really funny locals. The next morning was the reason why we had stayed.... we had the chance to hand feed two wild humpback dolphins, it was an amazing experience. After that we drove pretty much all day Thur & Fri. We had planned to go to Hervey Bay and catch a boat over to Fraser Island but because of the weather all ferry's have been cancelled - what a bummer, we both really wanted to go there for a few days.
Landed in Airlie Beach on Saturday so read the next blog for details...............
