Monday
Woke up for our last day in Byron and had an early breakfast ready to get our stuff together and check out.
We decided to leave our bags at the hostel so that we could go out and do our final lot of exploring.
We wondered into town for a sushi lunch. The proper kind with the conveyer belt and coloured dishes. It was really good and I'm glad I managed to convince Mel to try something new - even if it meant a few little white lies on route. I did tell her the truth at the end.
From there we picked up cake from a bakery and sat on the beach admiring the view and also the very dark clouds heading in our direction.
We decided from here to walk up to the lighthouse stopping off at the most easterly point of the Australian mainland. The views were amazing and we were constantly slightly ahead of the dark clouds which was good and came with the added bonus of a beautiful rainbow. Well we avoided it till the last stretch but fortunately as the rain got heavy we spotted a phone box and ran like mad people to it. Luckily it was a really quick shower and a few minutes and it was over.
We stopped at a cafe on the way back to reward our efforts. The walk included a lot of steps so this meant an apple and blackberry crumble was allowed. Turns our crumbles are slightly different in Australia - bit more watery. Still quite nice though.
We then headed back to the hostel and sat around reading for the last few hours before catching the greyhound bus back to Sydney.
