We did a day trip from Byron bay to Nimbin with grasshopper tours. It was a cool trip, definitely an experience! The bus that picked us up was a rickety old thing painted like a rainbow and had really loud rock music blaring from it! The driver explained that Nimbin was a hippy town back in the 70's and they once had a massive festival which out numbered the police so they weren't able to stop everyone getting stoned. Ever since then it's been known as the place to easily buy weed and cookies! It is still illegal to buy weed in Nimbin but apparently the police just turn a blind eye to it. Me and Oddy bought a cookie each, they tasted really delicious but had absolutely no effect on either of us! Nimbin is a really small town so we walked around the whole place within 30 minutes and in that time we must have been offered weed and cookies about 20 times! It's a very odd little place but really worth seeing! There is a cool little museum that we looked around which has loads of drug and hippy related things to see, it's just really openly pro-drugs there with (it seems) no consequences from the police! Everyone who lives there looks like they are still living in the hippy era! We headed back towards Byron bay via a place to stop for a BBQ lunch which didn't get served until 4pm so we were absolutely starving, then we stopped at a waterfall that had no water! So it was definitely a bit of a random day out, but good fun!
