We arrived in Cairns at 5:15am, we were not able to check in to our room until 2pm so we had a few hours to kill. We were still tired so found an area in the common room and lay down for a little snooze when some friends we had met on Fraser Island saw us and said we could go in their beds because they were off out on a snorkelling trip! We were so happy because after trying to sleep on an uncomfortable bus for 10 hours followed by trying to sleep in an uncomfortable common room we were pretty tired!
When we got up we went for a wander around Cairns, it was insanely hot and humid there! We were sweating the minute we stepped out the door! In the evening we met up with Jen and Megan (the bed givers!) for a few drinks and some dinner.
We had our Great Barrier Reef scuba diving tour booked for the following morning. I was so excited because I've never done it before, but I foolishly answered a question on my safety form too honestly (about fainting occasionally) and they would not let me do the diving because of it! I was so angry I could have cried! I was in a really bad mood for ages about it but then we got to do snorkelling and it was so good that I forgot about my mood! We saw loads of really colourful fish, a big barracuda and a turtle called Leeroy who apparently always comes to find the boat and he's really friendly! He was swimming right next to us which was really cool. Odette still did her scuba dive so I just sunbathed on the boat while she was gone. The trip itself was really good, the boat was nice and they served us tonnes of delicious food all day, but I was really disappointed to miss out on the dive :-(
For our very last evening in Australia we went for dinner at a nice Italian restaurant which was delicious and they forgot to charge us for a bottle of wine so it was a bargain! We had a pretty early night in preparation for a looong day of travelling to Singapore!
