Finally today was the day we had been waiting for. We were off to Alcatraz... cant believe we have been here over a week and this was the soonest we could get tickets.
Anyway of course it was cold so we started the day with an apple cider yum yum!
We did an audio tour of the cellhouse which was really good. We learnt about the attempted escapes and the actually escapes that led to the prison being closed for good.
We thought it probably seemed like a good idea back in the day, as Alcatraz is its own little Island, but its not actually that far from the coast at all. In fact we met a woman who was doing a swim here and she was swimming more than the distance so/from Alcatraz.
The cells were so tiny and the whole prison was really cold and draughty. Would not have been a good place to stay. There was a lot of accommodation on the Island aswell as the wardens, cooks etc tended to live there as it was cheaper.
In fact in the gift shop i bought a book about Alcatraz and coincidently the author was actually there doing signings so i got her autograph. That was unexpected.
Poor Laura noticed she had a few bites. She has not been bitten in yonks so hopefully they will go. Tiger Balm should do the trick.
The movie tonight was about the Healthcare system in the USA. I am actually proud to be British when I think of our NHS. Laura has stated she will never live in the US because of their rubbish healthcare. Even people who pay for it dont get treatment. We were actually quite emotional after watching it as people were losing there homes, were dying or just becoming bankrupt due to the healthcare system. It showed the UK, France and Canada as having amazing healthcare. Go UK whoop whoop
