This tourism report will be about Norway. This is a beautiful country placed North in Europe. It's part of Scandinavia and is known for its nature and its spectacular hikes in the mountains and by the fjords. The population is 5.433 million people and covers as much as 148,729 mi².
History
Norway as a country is only 206 years old. In early history, Scandinavia was covered by ice until the last Ice Age by the help from the Gulf Stream that made the land emerge, and the first people dated to arrive was 10,000 BC. Norwegians are most knows for the Viking Age which took place 793-1066 AD. At this point Denmark, Norway and Sweden were considered the same region as Scandinavia with many kingdoms all around. It was not until year 872 that the Viking Harald Hårfagre (L.T. Finehair, because he was known for having fine hair), became the first king of all of Norway. After having diplomatic relations to Denmark for a long time already, Norway entered a union with Denmark in 1524 and lasted until Norway got its own constitution signed 17th of May 1814. This day is the biggest holiday celebrated in Norway with a big party every year.
Weather
Norway is lucky to experience all four seasons during the year. The winter is normally from December throughout February, but you can experience it snowing, either it stays or not, between October to April. The winters are cold and get as cold as 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring is from March to May, and this is the time where all the plants start grow back and flowers are blooming. The temperature is about 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer is from June to August with about 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Considering Norway being far North, the sun is up longer during this season and North in Norway they have the midnight sun, whereas the sun never sets, in contrast to winter where they don't see the sun. Fall is from September to November and the temperature goes back down about 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Tourism
Norway has its perk in all four seasons, but the peak of tourism is Summertime. The best way to explore Norway is to visit the capitol and the west coast of Norway to see the beautiful sceneries by the mountains and the fjords. This is best to do during summer and that's why it's the peak season. Winter, however, is also popular because of its white winter and the Northern lights that you can see north in Norway. Tourists are coming from all over the world, most from the USA but many from other countries in Europe. One thing that is practical about traveling in Norway is that everybody speaks English and are willing to help out when tourists are wondering where to go.
In 2017 there were documented 9.9 million tourists arriving to hotels in Norway, for holiday, business and leisure. Tourists spends usually about a week traveling to different places within the country. The Currency used is NOK, kroners.
