Grandpa tivoli invited me out fishing with him! What a way to learn than off an old professional! I knew I needed a snorkel so was expecting to be out swimming for a while! We started off by looking for crab holes in the sand and following the tunnel until we caught it! Tivoli then pulled it's legs off whilst it was still squirming and put the torsos in his short pockets! His fishing line consisted of a plastic bottle, a line and a hook and we swam out over the reef until we found a deep part about 15m! He then pulled the body of the crab apart, stuck it onto the hook and within minutes, had caught his first one! All in all we were out treading water for an hour and a half which flew by! Tivoli caught 4 fish in the first half hour and I managed to catch a convict fish after an hour ha ha, as I reeled them in, he threaded the string of his shorts through their gills and mouth and tied them around his waste! Such a lovely old man who has obviously taken a shine to me as everyone else had to pay $20 to be taken out on a boat for the privilege and all grandpa expects is a warm smile and a hug for his troubles, (he normally catches about 10 without my hindrance) ha ha! Going to meet him at the dive shop again tomorrow morning for another session!
Danielle and Elise, the two Canadian girls in my dorm kept the light on for me bless them!
Grandpa tivoli took me snorkel, handling fishing again and I can honestly say I have a new hobby after catching 3 fish! He tried to give me the biggest one for my lunch but I declined as it was huge! He walked across the sharp coral with his hard feet, pulling me along in the shallow waters so I didn't cut mine! As I said goodbye, I couldn't help but burst into tears cos he has been so nice to me and I wish I had him as a grandpa!
66 year old tivoli also made the long hike up an down the mountainous hill on his day off just to wave me off and swap addressed which made me cry again, great! Love the Fijians, they get so much pleasure from sharing what little they have and seeing you smile!
I would like to say vinaka to everyone I have met and hope to be saying bula again in the near future!
