Kyles worldwide travels
Hello all,
Bolivia is so different from anywhere i have ever been. Most locals still dress in their traditional dress, which is so colourful. You can tell from the very beginning that it is a very poor country but they all seem to be really happy and friendly. They just all get on with what they have to do, regardless of how manually hard it may be for them...i think most of the kids have full time jobs with their families - i don't think education is a high priority for many families.
We drove for about three hours (nothing is close in these countries!!) to the Tarabuco markets which was full of colour and different smells - not many of them nice smells!! I brought so many really nice home wears for when i finally return home to good old Sydney!! Keep an eye out Pop they are on their way back home to you by mail!! fingers crossed! I also had to do the tourist thing and buy a locally made alpacka beanie...yep i look like a backpacker now!!
After the markets we went to a Football match, which turned out to be the finals for there league. We have been so lucky in landing in places when special things have been on. The football was great, i haven't been to a major game before (even in London - but i will when i get back!!), so it was great to see all the hype and fan fair!!! The teams were:
Uyuni V Oruro // Potosi V Sucre - which are all places i have now visited!!
The local team didn't win but that didn't seem to bother anyone, they are all rather laid back about things like that!!
We grabbed a cab from the stadium to the hotel and it was quite a ride. We had five people in a car the clearly held only four passengers..so we were a little worried when the cab driver got out of the cab just as we had all got in and went over to another cab and starting fighting with him and then the police got involved and we pretty much just sat there in shock...no one thought of getting out and grabbing another cab!!! The cab driver finally got back in the cab and the police came over the took his licence...that should have given us some indication as to what was to come...but no we still stayed in the cab. The driver took off with us in the cab and the police jumped into the other cab the drive had been fighting with and then they tailed us all the way to our hotel...we think our driver had hit the other cab but didn't stop to exchange details (that happens all over the world but it can get a bit messy if it happens in Bolivia!!), so the police and other cab driver weren't't going to let him out of their sight!!! We just held on the hoped we made it to the hotel alive!!!
The next day is probably the best day i have had so far...Laura, Chris, Joanna and i went on a mountain bike ride and hike around the mountains of Sucre. I wasn't all that sure i could make it when we first started off, due to the altitude and the fact that i'm a couch potato at home and in London...but i surprised myself and got to the top..after a three hour bike ride you would think i was going to die but i went on to a three hour hike..well it was meant to be a hike but it turned out to be a mountain climb which was amazing. We climbed through waterfalls and even managed to take a swim in a lagoon and jump off the waterfall into the lagoon...i had a great time and still can't believe i am doing half the stuff i am doing.
Our next journey is to Potosi, which is a mining town about 7 hours from Sucre, so we have another early start!!!
