Monkey Mia was as far north as we decided to go. 25 degrees in the day was just right! Didn't really want to waste the fuel going any further north, and I just wanted to stay in one area for a while, besides the inside of the car.
Well the last 30 minute drive up to monkey Mia was beautiful.! You have the sea on either side of you, and waters are shallow so you get that really light blue water colour. The first day we went to the national park and saw a small hidden lagoon in this desert area. We were pretty lucky that a family of emus came out from no where and ran into the lagoon for a dip. In the national park there was a man mad well, dug down to 425m, where natural hot water was pumped up, at about 70 degrees and was originally used for domestic purposes, today it's pumped into an outdoor hot tub around 40 degrees.. Well it was scorching hot!! We sat in it for 5 minutes, had a peanut butter sandwich, played some tunes and got out. That night was also the first night we had a barby in Ozz. No shrimps though, too expensive! Burgers, chicken, a few beers by the beach!
We drove about 20 minutes to a view point called eagle bluff. It was a bit of a mission getting up there in our car.. The road was horrific! But the view was amazing! And so was the sunset! Because the waters were so shallow and clear, you could see all the stingrays, sharks and dougons swimming about!
The next morning we got up at the crack of dawn to go see the Dolphins, who swim in every morning and get fed a couple of fish each morning. Only the mothers get fed so the males don't become aggressive and the pups learn how to catch fish for themselves and don't become dependant. They really are intelligent creatures and was amazing to get so close to them and see them play. There were a couple of Pelicans that hover around as well as they know they might get a fish if they are clever and nick one from the Dolphins.! These birds were massive as well!
