Angkor Wat. One of the 7 wonders of the world. Temples built for the kings of their time which were left over the years, neglected and forgotten after the civil wars, where restoration has only recently taken place. The main Angkor Wat temple wasn't that impressive after seeing the white Ranakpur temple in India. The best bit was sitting for 30 minutes people watching as they were coming down some steep steps down the side of the temple. With the occasional Chinese tourist pull out the double peace fingers for a photo.
However the temple which was engulfed over the years by the surrounding forestry was fascinating to see the contrast in man made stone temples with the jungle often growing through and on top of them. It brought out a child like feeling of wanting to climb on everything and run around. This was also where the tomb raider film was shot.
The sunset over one of the most well preserved temple was a bit of an anti-climax as they only let 300 people up the thing at a time.. So we waited about an hour just to get up. And the sunset was fairly average. Still, had fun racing an old woman down the hill though..
