Kya Travels
Today we woke up nice and early to get some breakfast at the B&B, which is included in our accommodation. We went downstairs, and Robert came out, and served us up some tea, toast, cereal, juice, and even some hot food! Darren got a bit of a fry up and I got some scrambled eggs and potato bread. Yummy! Then we decided we'd head back up to get some more sleep. Next thing we knew, it's 1.30pm! Must have needed that sleep! I think it may be the first time I've woken up this trip and felt like I was actually ready to wake up! We eventually got ready to go out, and Lyle decided to stay back cos he was feeling a little under the weather... So Darren and I set off in the little panda, and drove up the east coast of Loch Lomond to a town called Balmaha, where one of the pubs had a food and drink festival on. We got a beer, and went into the courtyard where it was all happening, and watched the band that was playing. They were really cool and they played nice covers like lumineers, and Mumford and sons. They also had lots of different instruments, like mandolin, ukulele, violin, banjo, percussion, guitars and male and female vocals. They were awesome. After they finished, there must have been a band that didn't show up, cos no one played for a while. We bought some local beers from one of the stalls, and got some cheap cakes from a stall that was packing up. Then we went into the beer tent they had set up, where we got talking to an older couple from the area. After only a minute of talking to them, they bought us a drink each, which was so nice of them. We talked to them for a while, and the organisers moved the stage up to the tent, away from the damn midges!! (One even got in my eye! Argh!) The next act to play was a young guy, with bright red hair. He was probably only about 18, and I really liked him! He had a super raspy voice, and played an acoustic guitar by himself, and it just sounded awesome. Then a couple of older men started playing, one on bagpipes and one on drums, and they were a little average. The couple we were talking to were telling us of a place up towards the north of the Loch, called Drovers Inn, which we had actually been told about by a few other people already, and they were saying how Saturday nights is the only night they have any entertainment on, so we decided we might leave and head up that way. We said goodbye to our new friends, and headed back in the panda to Balloch. The road on the east side doesn't go all the way up the top, but stops about 3/4 of the length of the loch, so to get to the drovers inn we had to drive back to Balloch and around up the west side. We picked Lyle up on the way and made our way out there. The drive there was very very pretty, as we were literally driving right next to the Loch with the mountains looming up on the other side, the tops covered in 'atmospheric' clouds. It was pretty amazing. We arrived at the Drovers Inn, which is supposed to be quite haunted as well. It was a pretty old building, and as soon as you walk in the front door, there's a giant stuffed bear staring at you! Creepy. The whole building is full of stuffed animals, deer heads and antlers, birds, foxes and many other animals, as well as guns, fishing rods and other hunting tools. We got a table and ordered some food, and had a chilled out dinner there. When we were finished we moved into the main bar area, where the musician was just starting. His name was Jeff, and he was a music/comedy act, and he looked like he had just been transported straight from the 80's! The only problem was, he had such a thick Glaswegian accent, I couldn't understand hardly anything he was saying! Another cool thing about the bar, was the staff t-shirts, which said "pub of the year 1705". Hilarious. So after Jeffs first set, we decided we'd make our way back, cos we were all feeling a bit flat, and not really in a party mood. So we finished up, and headed back to Balloch and to the B&B, where we watched a little TV, then went to sleep.
