Kya Travels
When we woke up this morning we decided to book an extra night at the hotel as Darren still wasn't feeling the best from whatever bug he had picked up in Morocco. So I went down and organized that, then grabbed some breakfast and sat with our crew from the night before. We chatted and I found out that Pooja, Elena and Graham were all staying another couple of days, so we exchanged numbers and organized to catch up later. I went back up to the room and not long later, Elena and Saumya came up so Saumya could say goodbye to Darren then when they left we spent our time just chilling out, relaxing and snoozing. At one point I gathered up our laundry and went for a walk to try find a laundromat, because pretty much all our clothes needed a wash! I walked up the street to a big shopping centre where I walked around a bit and found a dry cleaning looking place. I tried to ask if they washed clothes, but she had no English and we couldn't understand each other at all! So I went over to maccas and got an iced coffee and used their wifi to see if I could find somewhere online. After a while I gave up and headed back to the hotel, where I found little wifi vouchers at reception! So we had wifi in our room at least, even if we didn't have clean clothes! I contacted Pooja, Ely and Graham as well as the Aussies, Steve and Caz and organized to catch up for dinner that night. Everyone replied except Pooja... No idea what happened to her, but we think she got annoyed that we stayed in bed instead of coming out exploring with her! After spending the rest of the day resting we got a taxi and headed into Plaza Ayuntamiento in the middle of the city and met the guys by the fountain. Caz had done some research and had found what was apparently the best paella place in Valencia (the city is where, coincidentally, the paella was invented!) so we headed over to check that out. They weren't quite open yet (Spaniards eat late!) so we wandered back down the street and went to a little cocktail bar called La Casa Blanca for a drink while we waited. We had some beers and the others had some cocktails and we had a chat before heading back to the restaurant, Palacio de la Bellota, at 8. We had an amazing dinner, with so much food!!! The rest of the crew started with an entree of Iberian Ham, which is apparently the most delicious thing ever, and we had lots of breads and olives too. We ordered some wine and all shared that. Then we got the paella! It was minimum between two people, but Darren decided he'd go vego for the night so I could have some too. It came out still in the big pans and the waiter served it up for us. It was so delicious!! We all ate way too much, then decided we should drink too much to even it out, so we ordered another bottle of wine. As a joke, the waiter brought out this massive 5 litre (empty!) bottle of wine. We got a few funny photos with that and had a good conversation over the wine about our amazing movie ideas. Caz and Steve had the Frat Monkey, who was enrolled in a university and just went around wreaking havoc, and Darren and I had Tommy-Tina, the tortured young boy from Buñol who goes on a killing spree at La Tomatina. Good times. After dinner we pre-ordered some crazy amounts of meat for dinner the next night, then went back to La Casa Blanca for another drink. We all got a cocktail, and Darren got a bourbon and coke. They brought out this massive fishbowl glass and started pouring the bourbon in and let Darren tell them when to stop! It's called the 'free-pour'! So Darren ended up with about half a fish bowl of bourbon with a little bit of coke! Crazy! After another chat and a laugh (and pretty much clearing the room!) we said goodbye to Steve and Caz who had an early flight, then finished our drinks and left as well. We said bye to Graham then walked to the taxi rank with Ely then said bye to her and got in a taxi back to the hotel then went up to bed.
