Kya Travels
Woke up by chance at 7am, forgot to set an alarm! Showered and dressed, then both feeling a bit worse for wear headed out the front. Got picked up at 8am by a tour bus. We got on and it was full of oldies! We headed down to Byron Bay for the day, stopping first for morning tea of tea and cake at a rest area off the highway. When we got to Byron Bay, we first went to the lighthouse and had a lookout at the easternmost point of the Australian mainland! Saw some dolphins in the waves, and checked out the displays inside for a bit, before jumping back on the bus. Then we went into the main part of Byron Bay for a bit, where we could do our own thing for an hour and a half. So we checked out some of the shops, got pasta for lunch, and a juice, then bought a few CD's at the music shop before we headed back to the bus. Next the bus stopped at a roadside stall that sold macadamia nuts, surrounded by massive macadamia farms. Next stop was Nimbin, which is like a little stoner village! The shops were really cool and arty, and there was a museum which was pretty much all about marijuana! Got back to the bus and one of the old ladies had bought some hash cookies! Then we stopped at the candle factory, where they showed us how they made candles the old fashioned way which was pretty cool. Then kept going and stopped at Tropical Fruit World. We didn't do the tour of the farms, because there wasn’t enough time, but the gift shop was really cool, and they had free tastings of teas and nuts and biscuits, and it was really cool, and had a great vibe. That was our last stop, so we headed back to the Gold Coast after that. For a day out with the oldies we had an awesome time. They had a good sense of humor, and we had a fun day. The bus dropped us off at the end of our street, where we went to a Vietnamese restaurant for tea, and had rice paper rolls (not as good as mum's!) and pad Thai/sizzling Moroccan meal. Then we went back to the apartment and just relaxed with the TV, internet etc, and had a REALLY early night - in bed by 8pm!
