Kya Travels
After a very **** sleep, waking up multiple times, probably because of the air conditioner outside the room that had been running all night, I got up at about 6:50am to try and catch the sunrise. I went up to the top deck and woke Eilleen and Mel, then went out the front, and were joined not long after by Darren. The boat was still docked, so we got an extremely **** sunrise (or lack of!) behind the buildings and mountains! I was hoping we'd be moving by that time! The tips of the mountains looked kind of cool where the sunlight was reaching them, but that was about it! Darren went back to bed and I chilled out a while longer with Eilleen then we went down to get breakfast together. (The first day I actually got up in time for breakfast!) I had some cereal, a cup of tea and some bread with cream cheese, then went back to bed! We woke up to Eilleen knocking on our door, and she came in with two beers in hand yelling "SWIM STOP!" I could hardly look at the beers, but took one for the team, and left Darren in bed, as he was feeling a bit worse than me, put on my bathers and took the beers up to the top deck. I got Eilleen to get her camera out to take a photo of me jumping from the boat, then jumped in. As I was in the air, looking down, I saw a school of tiny fish in the water below me! So cool! The water was a bit chilly, and so salty! My eczema was almost instantly hurting, but I toughed it out and swam around for a while before getting out and heading downstairs for a shower before lunch. We ate our final yummy lunch on the boat (Ivo the chef was so good at looking after my vegetarian needs! Champion!) then went back to our room to get ready for our rafting excursion! The group of us who were going met on the dock then got on a bus to the rafting place. We got given helmets and life jackets then jumped in the raft and headed down the river. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we learnt how to paddle and went down a few rapids. It was so much fun! Most of the time it was just flat beautiful river, then every now and then there would be a small section of rapids and our guide would be calling out "Left! Right! Everyone!" After the third rapid, there was a whistle from the other boat, so we waited for them to catch up, then realized there was someone missing! Rachel was lying in the bottom of the raft, clutching her leg and crying! We didn't know exactly what had happened, but got the gist that she'd been stabbed in the leg by a passing branch! So our guide called someone and we had to paddle to the next spot we could pull over at. It was about 20 minutes later that we pulled into shore, and she had been lying in the raft in pain the whole time, poor thing! We had to wait about another 15-20 minutes for someone to get there with a first aid kit, then she was helped up to the car, where Charlotte went with her to go to the hospital. After talking to the guys from the other boat, we found out the stick had gone really deep into her leg and ripped the flesh back, and they'd apparently seen little bits of orange fatty stuff and flesh hanging out of the wound! It was so bad, the poor thing, especially having to wait for so long to get help too! Eventually when she was safely on her way to the hospital, we got back into the boat (after some rearranging of teams) and I ended up in the front this time, which was awesome. We went down some more rapids, and learnt how to "bomba!" which meant to quickly put your paddles in the air and sit on the bottom of the boat so you didn't get thrown out! The next rapid we went down was more intense than the others, and when he called out "bomba", we went down a bit of a drop and got absolutely covered in water! It was so fun! I think I copped most of the water, being in the front of the boat! We had a lot of fun in our boat, our guide was a bit of a joker, and I kept falling for his jokes! We had a chat with the German father and son in our boat as well, and coasted our way through the pretty mountains. A water fight broke out between Eilleen, the German dad and Darren (otherwise known as 'the left side') but I think I copped most of the water again!! We got some pretty photos and eventually we made it to the end of the run. By that time the sun had been behind the mountains a while and we were freezing! We got out, pulled the boat onto a trailer, then walked up to the bus, grabbed our dry clothes and got changed before jumping on the bus and heading into Split. We were dropped off at the dock, and Darren and I picked up a pizza slice to keep us going until dinner, then went back to the boat. We dropped off our stuff then the two of us went for a walk to the hostel we'd stayed in last week to try book a room for the next night. After we booked we headed back to the boat, via an ATM, then went to get some cake which they were giving us for our farewell. Apparently we'd just missed the speeches from the crew (apart from Janice, who was at the hospital with Rachael!). We fixed up our bar tab, as well as leaving some tips for the crew, then we chilled out on the deck for a while before walking into town with a bunch of people to go out for dinner. We found a place, and we sat inside with some people while the rest sat outside. The staff rearranged tables around and even got other customers to move so we could all fit inside, then the others decided they'd stay outside! I thought that was a bit rude!! The meal wasn't too exciting, but Eilleen got a black pasta, made from squid ink, which was pretty interesting, and gave her funny black goth looking lipstick! After dinner we headed out to a bar, where we sat and had a drink together. We got a free shot, then I ended up having a cup of tea instead as I wasn't feeling amazing, then after hanging there and chatting for a while, and chatting to a bunch of people, Darren and I headed back to the boat with Jess and Katie, while the rest of the crew went to find a club. We got back to the boat and headed down to bed.
