Kya Travels
We woke up late this morning, so had to quickly pack up our things and get out of the room! Oops! The staff were cool though, and let us have a bit of extra time, as they weren't too busy. When I'd packed my things, I chilled out using the wifi for a bit while Darren had a shave, then when we were both ready we grabbed our bags, checked out and walked down to the bus station. We had some beautiful weather, but its never so nice with the backpacks on!! When we arrived, we bought our tickets to Split then sat down at the Nanas there for a burger while we waited for the bus. After lunch we went over to our platform, checked our luggage under the bus and got on and found a seat. When I had been told it would take 3 hours and 20 minutes to get there, I must have misunderstood, because two and a half hours later, we arrived! At 3:20pm! That was a nice surprise! We grabbed our bags and walked around to our hostel and checked in, then went for a walk into Split's old town. We walked in through the original roman walls into the original roman city which is almost 2000 years old! It was amazing to be walking around the very pretty skinny streets and alleyways that were that old! We went up to the bell tower and paid a few kuna to climb up the top. It was a cool climb, as there were gaps in the walls, so you could see the view the whole way up, it was pretty cool. We got up the top for some amazing 360• views of the city, and had a chat with an old couple from England who took some photos for us and we took some for them, then we headed back down. On the way down we ran into a group of girls and a guy from Belgium who were about halfway up and were too scared to go any higher! We chatted to them for a while and tried to convince them to go up, with no luck! So we all walked down together and organised to maybe meet up for a beer a bit later on. We said bye then wandered around a few more streets and came out the other side of the roman old town section. We found a big statue of a wizard whose big toe apparently makes your wish come true when you rub it, so we got some funny photos with that, then ran into the Belgian group again! We had another chat with them for a while, and exchanged emails in case we made it to Belgium, then said bye again and went for a walk to find a pub we'd been recommended. We found it, but it was pretty quiet, and looked more like a sports bar, so we kept walking for a bit and found a place called Splash, which was a rock/metal bar. We went in there for a drink and got talking to some of the locals. The guy we were talking to apparently works at this bar too, and was telling us how amazing a singer the guy behind the bar was! He ended up convincing him to sing us a bit of 'Dock of the Bay' which was pretty cool, he had a pretty good soul type voice. Then the first guy got us a shot. I can't remember the name of it, but its a drink that's made by a man on one of the islands, and they never tell anyone they have it, because its so good they want to save it for themselves and their friends, because when they run out they have to wait for ages to get more! So they must have liked us!! It was pretty nice too, pretty sweet but strong, and you didn't even need a chaser! We chilled out there for quite a while listening to the metal music and chatting with him, the guy behind the bar, and his girlfriend. Another kid came in who was apparently only 15, and we talked with him for a while too, then eventually we decided to leave to find some food. We walked around the streets for a bit and found an Italian style restaurant called Maslina, where we got a table and ordered quickly as a big group of around 30 people came in not long after we got there! Darren got a good pasta, and I got one of the best lasagnes I've ever had, it was so delicious! After dinner we went back to Splash and hung out with the bar guy whose shift had ended and his girlfriend. Our other friend was there again for a bit, and got us another shot of the Croatian stuff before he left, which was awesome! Someone had a dog in the bar who kept going around trying to hump everyone's legs, and the bar guy we were hanging out with was giving Darren some singing lessons after exchanging music of their bands on their phones! It was a pretty fun night and we had quite a few beers before saying our goodbyes and heading back to the hostel. We had a chat with a couple of New Zealanders in the common room before going to the room. We had a chat with our room mates, an Aussie who was a bit of a buzzkill, and an American who was pretty cool, then went to bed and got some sleep.
