Kya Travels
I woke up this morning and left Darren asleep while I went for a walk around town. I went to the post office first where I posted the German book for my auntie and a postcard for my nan, then I just wandered up and down the streets for a while. I came across some cool looking roman ruins which had been excavated and had a glass top over it to look down into, then went past a pretty park and wandered around more streets. I started to make my way back to the hostel, then realized that I had turned myself around somehow, when I came to the beach! There was a great view of some beautiful islands, and a yacht was sailing past, which looked very pretty. I worked out the way back after that, then when Darren was ready, we went back out and went to find somewhere for lunch. We stopped at a little fast food type place called Nanas, where we got a burger each which was pretty tasty, but so unhealthy! I got some wifi and skyped Tiana for a quick chat, then when we were finished we went for a walk back down to the waterfront that I'd found. We walked along the water for a while and came across Zadar's famous sea organ! It was like a bunch of big steps going down into the water, and one level had holes cut into the stone which made music, depending on how big the waves were and where they were hitting under the steps! It sounded very nice. The water was quite calm, so it was a pretty tranquil relaxing sound. After chilling there for a while we had a look around, saw the big light that lights up at night, then went to a little cafe for a takeaway coffee and hot chocolate. With our warm drinks in hand we wandered back along the waterfront, passed a cool statue and walked around to a marina, then ended up back at a big gate near the pretty park I'd seen earlier. It had started to rain, so instead of checking out the park and showing Darren the ruins we started back towards the hostel. On the way we passed Sara, from the reception, said hi then kept walking. A bit further on we saw Sara again and stalked her back to the hostel! We went inside and chilled out for a while using the wifi and chatting with Sara. We got some room mates who were pretty excited to see the guitar in the room, and had a bit of a strum. We chilled out there for a while then went to bed for a snooze before we were planning to go out. I had an alarm set, but woke up 5 minutes before it went off. I love it when that happens. We got ready and went for a walk. We ended up walking with Sara again for the first part, just to reinforce the idea that we were stalking her, then we went over to check out the roman ruins for a bit, then had a bit of a walk through the gardens. They were very pretty, but made mostly of stones and built around that kind of thing. We walked through then came to a lookout over the marina, where the sunset was so pretty! We walked down through the gate in the city wall and went past the marina and down to the waterfront. There was the most amazing sunset that we got to watch over the water, and I got some pretty photos on some rocks, then we walked along the rest of the waterfront back to the sea organ where the waves where a little rougher, so the music was a little more intense. It sounded awesome! We watched the rest of the sunset there and got some amazing photos, and watched some crazy guy jump into the water for a swim! Too cold for that! When he got out he was nice enough to tell us he had just needed to pee! Ewww! After the sun went down the big circle of light turned on, and it was like a disco on the ground! It looked very cool, and all the kids running around there were loving it! After a few cool photos there we made our way back into town and tried to find the restaurant that Darren had been eyeing off for a few days, but he couldn't remember exactly where it was! So we wandered around for a while and eventually we ended up back at the first place I'd suggested it might be, and it was it! So we sat down there at Atrij, on the cool seats they had out the front of the restaurant that let us face the streets and watch the people walking by. The portions of food were small but fantastic, and the speaker was right behind us playing some epic 80's songs, which we were singing to passers by, and we also had some amazing Croatian wine called Agrolaguna Cab Sav. The wait staff were super friendly too! A good experience. After dinner we were still a little hungry, so went for a wander to maybe grab some chips to share, but the place was closed! So we stopped at a cake shop instead! We ordered a couple of cakes, and Darren changed his order halfway through, but the waitress must have misunderstood, because she brought us the other one as well as the one he'd originally ordered! So we ate three pieces of cake! We were definitely full after that! Then we headed back to the hostel, stayed up using the wifi for a while and chatting with the staff, then went to bed.
