More Pai
Yesterday was a pretty laid back day. Michelle was still feeling terrible so we stayed close and mainly hung out at the jazz bar. In the afternoon she was still feverish and not well so we decided to take her to the hospital since she had good insurance and to be sure it wasn't danggay fever. Luckily the hospital was pretty proficient and we were only there around an hour and a half. Turns out she had some sort of bacterial infection and was given antibiotics and a couple other pills. Her whole visit cost only 320 baht ($11.11)
After the hospital Michelle went back to bed and we watched inception at edible jazz. By the halfway point in the movie Niki was feeling off and went to lay down with Michelle. By the end of the movie Niki was in bed shivering with a high fever. Two down and two still on our feet!
By bedtime they both had high fevers and felt awful.
So much for Mae Hong Son!
Today we woke up and both girls felt a bit better but still unwell. Jason and I went to the store for crackers, water and juice for the girls. After that we went down the street for breakfast and rented bicycles again.
We decided that we would pedal our asses to a canyon outside of Pai. It was 8km away. The road was decent with both uphill battles and downhill gliding.
The canyon was cooler than we expected. We were able to hike down some trails and climb some easy rock cuts to see more of the canyon.
After we left here we headed back in the direction of Pai and turned down a road with a sign pointing to a waterfall 6km away. The road here had some steep hills up and was a little bit of a challenge near the end. We stopped on the way at a place with a sign saying "earth crack". There was a section up a hill where the ground had split twice and was now a small cavern. It was neat but not that interesting. Onward and upward! We kept on pushing ourselves up the winding mountain road until we finally arrived at the water fall. These falls were not as cool as the one from the other day but still a refreshing break! There was no area to swim but we were able to walk into thigh high water and stand under the falls. It was very refreshing. There was nowhere to really sit and relax so we headed back to our bikes and set off again. We rode the rest of the way back to Pai and our sick girls. Today was a good workout with amazing mountain scenery. Overall Jason and I went 28km today on our bicycles. We feel good from the ride just a little tired and are working on rehydration!
We stopped by 711 on the way back to edible jazz for some water and juice for the girls. Once we made our drop off we went for a late lunch then back to jazz. The girls finally had a bit of an appetite and sent us out for some food. Appetite is a good sign so hopefully they will bounce back soon! From here on we will be playing it day by day. Once they are both feeling ok we will be taking a bus four hours back to Chiang Mai.
