Bus departed Westport at 9am. Went a wee walk around a nearby seal colony. Once again, absolutely beautiful scenes. Feel we are maybe getting a bit spoilt with the views we are taking in. It may ruin me forever and I'll never again appreciate the more standard things...hopefully not. Seen some little baby seals belly sliding about. Travelled from there to Punakaiki and done a walk around to see these strange looking pancake rocks and massive blowholes from the sea. Pretty incredible looking. Had passion fruit ice cream from a little shop...omg. Passion fruit ice cream. Get on it. It's intensely fantastic.
From there we drove south to Greymouth where we had and hour and a bit to all boost and prep ourselves for our themed party. Which was to be the theme of..dum dum dumuuuuum...Easter bin liner :/. We were all a bit disappointed with our bus driver Ponceys choice. We'd heard pretty epic examples of themes and there had been much speculation. The final decision didn't excite many of us but Poncey stuck to his guns with a stubborn "whats done is done" attitude. You had to be something easter themed and your costume had to include a bin liner aspect. SO, it was a Sunday and, on a Sunday, Greymouth is almost completely closed. We had one supermarket and a cheap store called Warehouse. Much improvisation had to take place and Rhona and I finally decided to go dressed as Jesus...in black. Since we could just really buy bin bags and find some twigs and hopefully get away with it.
Arrived at the "Poo Pub" just before 5pm and crazy old Les fires on the bus laying down the law. RULE NUMBER ONE - NO alcohol to be taken off the bus. So, we all promptly loaded our stuff into our dorms, tiptoeing around so as not to draw attention to the rattling alcohol bottles, and headed down to the beach to drink in the absence of fear. Plenty bevvy, chat, stone skimming and glorious sunset viewage later, we headed back to the hostel to ready for our theme night. Rhona and I looked like a couple of greek gods...missed the point a bit. Don't know why we decided to dress jesus in black (there are white bin bags) and also, give him a goatee. It seemed right at the time. Goon inspired jesus, we'll call it. Proceeded over to Les's pub and got the drinks in, had a boogie, great costume efforts and some less so (like us). Spent the night getting down with chicks, bees, eggs, rabbits, jesus', judi (plural of judas?) and numerous other easter type beasts. Excellent.
