Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Wednesday
Nice sleep in, breakfast. They made yummy pancakes there and great fruit salad- yum! We soon became addicted to their pricey lemon shakes- they were delish!! As well as the tuna sandwiches- our favourite while we were there.
Had an oober chilled out day- reading, sunbathing and snorkelling on the best of the three beaches. Darren had fun swinging on the awesome swing, which was attatched to 2 huge palm trees. We were both a bit dubious about the huge coconuts over head but were careful not to sit below them! We hitched a taxi boat to the pier and set out to find some entertainment, since it was the night of the "Full moon party". We'd opted to come to Koh Tao instead of the infamous "Koh Pangan" since we preffered a slightly calmer atmosphere. We headed to a village abundant with backpackers, bars and restuarants. First we reached an Indian bar under thatched roofs, with bean bags on the floor. Had a few drinks there and chatted for ages, while getting nibbled by mozzies. Next we headed to a mexican restaurant to scoff down some yummy enchilladas.
Unfortunately there didn't seem to be much going on as we strolled down the paths between the bars. Instead we took some funny photos of us climbing palm trees and swinging on wooden swings by the beach. There wasn't much to stay for, and we were feeling knackered, so we decided to head back to the pier, thinking it was getting late. As we reached the
pier village, we checked the time and couldn't believe it was only 9pm!! We actually felt embarrassed with ourselves- no wonder it was dead in the place we were last at- people wouldn't have started partying yet! So we decided to stay out a little longer and found an Irish pub that was pretty buzzing. A little too buzzing for my liking though. There's one thing I have not missed since I left home, and that's drunken western people acting like ignorant idiots. And there it was- I witnessed a middle aged man vomit infront of me while his friends found it amusing and didn't even offer to clean it up so
the Thai bar staff had the lovely job instead. Utterly inconciderate, casting a lovely inpression of western tourists.
I felt it time to head back, so we went to find a taxi boat. It was dark and a the waves were pretty fierce, so it wasn't really an enjoyable experience heading back to the beach. Luckily, I had my head torch with me, so I put it on my head, in the unlikely even that we may have capsized and I could have switched it on so that someone would find me! In the distance, we could see a beaming fog of light. We think it could indeed have been the crazy lit up Koh Pangan and could only imagine what my Gapper friends were up to that very night, since they had braved the mental party.
Felt exceedingly good to be back safe and sound at our comfy bungalow.
