Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Tuesday
Feeling absolutely knackered and in great need to dump our rucksacks and get some breakfast, we tried to find a means or transport to get to our pre-booked accomodation, which was at an isolated beach around the coast. We hitched a 'taxi-boat' which only took about 10mins to get from the peir round to the yellow sand beach resort that was "Sai Thong". Once at
reception, they didn't seem to have a record of our booking (grr) but by sheer chance, a guy approached me and said that he was just checking out and would I like his room- "yes thankyou!" I replied. And luckily it was a really nice wooden bungalow over-looking the gorgeous beach, with big round boulders round about.
The resort consisted of 3 small isloated beaches, all lined with wooden bungalows, swaying palms, hanging hammocks and lots of friendly doggies. We were actually greeted by the dogs as we arrived and followed them up the path to the reception. We went to dump our bags and check out our little shack. We had a a mozzie net over the bed, a fan and our own little porch with our own hammock and little bean bag- perfect for a chill out, read-your-book, spot.
After breakfast, we just kicked back and had an oober relaxed morning. Just read our books, I started work on my scrapbook and we befriended one doggie in particular, whom we named "Sai Thong Dog". We gradually named them all- there was "Peggy", who had a dead stumpy leg, "Perky" who had perky up ears, "Jacky", a fat jack russel of course, "Whitie" who was a white bully dog and "Mr Bojangles" who was a cute sandy coloured puppy, with a bell around its neck. Most of them were mongerels but weeeally cute and playful. Don't worry- I'm sure there was no rabies or fleas! They were all perfectly clean and well cared for.
There were Thai staff as well as a Czech couple with a baby, who lived in a house in the resort and seemed to part own the place. They were friendly too and we had some fun games of darts with them on the beach.
After we settled in, we had lunch at the resort's lovely chilled out restaurant. It was a wooden platform overlooking the beach, with boulders rolling into the sea. It had funky bean bags, low tables and nice candlelit lighting.
We then ventured to the nearby beach, which was shared with another set of bungalows. There was an oober funky bar on the beach called "Banana Rock Bar". It was like an awesome tree house on 3 levels and on the top level, there was also a small shack, housing the 2 barmen. We went up for a drink and they told us they had really cheap bungalows available. I went to
check them out but they were pretty basic compared to the nice shack we had already.
The bar men were highly amusing- both pretty stoned, and while one of them was showing me accommodation, the other invited Darren up to the top level of the bar and offered him various substances, which of course Darren politely declined! We stayed and chatted for a while. before heading back, leaving them stone in peace!
We decided to get a taxi boat to the main strip by the pier so that I could check out some of the Diving companies, since I was keen to check out the reefs while I was there. Once we arrived, we went to get money from the ATM, but realised that again there was zilch in the account. We were scuppered since we didn't have any other form of money with us, so were
forced to go straight back to Sai Thong and get dinner there. We had a peacful night, just chilling and reading our books by candlelight.
