Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Sunday 9th April
Not very eventful- got up to see the Sunday market but turned out to be mostly food. I was a bit disappointed cause I thought there'd be loadsa cool tribal crafts for cheap but to no avail. And we got trapped in between stalls next to the Durians, which was just naaasty. We also found ourselves in the fish section, and in the heat it certainly did stench. If I was almost boking, I don't know how mum or gran coped.
We then headed to a nearby mall- which was slightly unsuccessful as the lime juice we received there tasted exceedingly peculiar!
We got in a taxi and took refuge in the café we had visited previously, on the water front- "Brookes". Had a yummy beef dish there and we strolled back to the hotel through the park.
Just chilled out in the afternoon and got an early night in preparation for our flight next day.
Over- view of Kuching
Kuching was much cleaner than KK, but I still didn't feel as comfortable there as I do in KK. Most prob cause I'm settled in Sabah now, whereas I was just visiting Kuching. The people come across as friendly- a few seemed a bit sleazy- but you get than in KK as well- most don't mean you any harm though. The city was far more affluent than KK. There were less Filipino people than KK and they had a small Indian community, whereas there are hardly any Indians in KK.
There was a higher police presence and many western restaurants whereas in KK, its mostly local cafes.
Some of the cat statues were a bit dire (Kuching means cat in Malay) but there was some really nice contemporary art work around. There were also a greater abundance of Chinese Temples and graveyards than in KK.
