Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Hong Kong at last!! And oh my its crazy here! Arrived to hoards and hoards off people in the streets- just had to laugh as it was pretty much how I expected it would be. Although some of Hong Kong is not as clean and modern as I thought but the main part is.
It\'s really really confusing to find our way around because there are different islands with millions of trains, undergrounds and bridges going to each island so we never seem to know which island we\'re on.
The hostel is nice and clean but quite hard to get to as it\'s in a tower block just off a crazy main street and we have to take a dodgie lift up to our floor.
Our location is amaazing tho- we\'re right in the middle of the shopping area. The shops here are just too cool. As soon as we arrived, we bought a few gadgets- and they really weren\'t that cheap :-S. We also both bought wooly jumpers cos we\'re friggin freeeezing! The chinese are going around wearing scarves etc and we came with out borneo gear- brrr!
Last night we asked the hostel dude for advice as to where we could go dancing and he passed me on to his daughter, who\'s the only one that can speak english and she directed us to the main Hong Kong island. We went to the central station and found the place completely dead. We were all dressed up, ready for a boogy and we felt so stupid as we were surrounded in posh offices with the odd business man walking past. Luckily I spotted some Britts and they directed us to a place called Lang Kiy Fong (can\'t find it on the map to get the spelling right). Was soo cool- everyone was gathered in the street for a good night out. The street wound up a steep hill with bars+restaurants either side and we found a Ben +Jerris!! Had dinner in a Brittish/Ozzie bar-waaay too expensive- blew our budget big time. Went looking for somewhere to dance and ended up speaking to a randomer from Finland called Erkki, who was also looking for a club. He had recently arrived in Hong Kong along with about 150 other exchange students. We then stopped to ask 2 chinese girls where we could dance and ended up partyin with them. They took us to one of the bars and met up with some more crazy locals. There were soo many white and western people on the strip and at one point we found ourselves in a Russian ice bar- like a bar inside a fridge- friggin freezin- everyone had huge fur coats on- and were Russian! Too funny!
We then grabbed some ben and jerri\'s cookie dough ice cream with the chinese girls and headed back to the hostel. Was unreal- we got a minibus back and was seriously worse than the bus on \"speed\"- i was absolutely positive we were gona crash- complete lunatic driver going a million miles/hr!
And then we got outa the taxi near our hostel- it was 2.30 am and the streets were packed- and I mean completely packed- like busier than Princess St on Christmas Eve packed! We were like-whaaat? All of the shops were open and there were so many lights lighting up the buildings, that it felt like it was day time- felt a little surreal.
Thismorning Aman and I headed to Disney Land and to be honest it\'s a bit miniscule. Took us about 1-2 hrs to do it all. But was still quite fun. We watched a good Liong King show, went to Tarzans house in the trees, watched a 3D show thing and got our pics taking with Minnie Mouse+Tigger.
Tis really really chilly here- hoping the misty storminess will clear up soon cos we want to take a trip to the top of some big hill to get a clear photo of the city.
They cook some crazy stuff on the street here- might risk it and try some tonight.
Can\'t imagine living in Hong Kong, there\'s zilch greenery, and loads of the rooms in the buildings don\'t have windows. But the Chinese fashion sense is wacky and I love it! I definitaly appreciate the lush landcapes we have in Borneo- Hong Kong\'s good for a few days- but too cramped to live here.
Think we\'re off to do more shopping now. It\'s just as well the ATM\'s here have a limit on cash withdrawl cos it\'s quite easy to get carried away here.
My phone won\'t make outgoing calls so please email me if anything\'s up.
