Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Oh my- you know how I mentioned I was going for an Indian the other night? Well I've never peed myself so much in my life (apart from when Aman did something very naughty a few weeks ago that I didn't mention on the site). So- basically, the chef was a COMPLETE PHYSCO! In a good way! He was screaming his head off and throwing the dough for the roti about and just going mental in general- but like happy mental. Everyone on the street was looking and I went soo red- couldn't help but just laugh at him and I just couldn't stop- nearly choked. Aanyway, we got our pics taken with this dude cos he was just too funny to forget and unfortunately we also received a nice big sweaty stubbly kiss on the cheek- just what I wanted.
The food was quite good but hard to enjoy knowing that the big fats man's grubby fingers had made it- haha. Sorry, no offense. And Aman says nothing beats her mum's Indian food!
After our dinner we headed back down to the streets to check out what all the noise has been about for the last few days. Every time we headed to bed, it sounded like there was major partying going on- turns out there's a night market that is maanic. Twas absolute banter- streets filled with people bartering for their lives, some just chilling out round about- Mong Kok seems to be the "place to be" for student aged people.
Bought a pair of DC's for like 5 quid- genuine of course and ended up buying a few really random things cos they were pennies.
Aman and I shared an entire tub on Hagendas ice cream and was quite amusing cos turns out the ice cream shop (has it's own little ice cream restaurant) is a no.1 spot for dates. There were like 4 couples that were blatantly on their first dates. Cuteness. They were all having like 1 scoop each, eating all delicately and there was Aman and I wolfing down our tub of cookies+cream-mmm!!
They have funky flavours here- like red grapefruit and mango+coconut- yum.
We took a quick look at the market again and came across some scary food stalls- selling things like chicken feet, fish intestines, quail's eggs, deep fried weird things.
One thing about Hong Kong that shocked me was the lack of English the locals can speak- which was a bit of a drawback when it came to trying the local cuisine since we had absolutely no idea what each thing was after it had been deep fried.
We continued the frantic shopping until our legs could take no more around 2am but the market was still in full swing when we headed back to the hostel.
Stayed up chatting for yonks then eventually hit the hay.
Predictably had a long lie on our last day (since the shops don't open till 2pm and we'd done all of our sightseeing). Soo, after much deliberation on our products purchased the previous day, we retraced our steps to exchange some items. Took much persuasion towards the shop assistants to let us do so but managed to swap some things in the end.
Ended up buying even more- went to a few different malls around Mong Kok then after dropping off our numerous shopping bags in the hostel, we headed for our last meal. Went for some pasta- mm and reflected over our time in HK. Both decided 4 days is long enough in HK if you wana see the sights and do some shopping.
It was fab seeing the manic culture- so different to Malaysia, but we were def ready to head back to the white peaceful sands of Sabah.
