So I decided to continue with this blog as I have now got a laptop so shouldn't have any troubles saving!
Well... whats been happening. I didn't do too much in Auckland just chilled out and caught up with sleep. As I said above I got a laptop and that's probably the most exciting thing that happened!
I went to orientation on the 1st July. I checked in to my room and it had 2 double beds and a bath! Haven! I had a room mate though so didn't have it all to myself! Never mind. My room mate was nice she was from Germany. I don't think there are any Germans left in Germany they are either in NZ or Canada! Over half of the au pairs at orientation were from Germany!
Orientation was pretty crap! I didn't really feel like I learn't much! We set up a Westpac bank account, had someone from the AA come in and give us a practical driving lesson but I already knew most of the stuff! I guess it was more for the people that are driving on the other side of the road. We did a first aid course which I did find useful and it told us how to do first aid on a baby, hopefully I won't need to use it but it is good to know.
The food at orientation was really good. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner and I had a cooked breakfast! It was yummy!!! At dinner it was a buffet even though they had loads of different things they didn't actually have a veggie dish so I asked the chef and he cooked me some pasta one night and pizza the other night!! It was pretty impressive!
My host family picked me up from orientation on the Friday. I was so nervous about meeting them thinking what if I don't recognise them!! Thankfully I did! It was so nice to finally met them. Hunter and Libby were so cute and Hunter held my hand as we walked to the car! It took about 2 hours to get to my new home. Hunter and I had fun in the car and Libby seemed happy laughing away. Cam and Tessa my host parents were great chatting to me all the way. We stopped to get pizza on the way home. We arrived in the dark so I had no idea where I was! We had pizza then I was showed my room. I have a room in the garage sounds bad but its really nice as I have my own private space. I unpacked a little then I went in to the main house and I sat and watched a movie with Cam and Tessa. After just a few hours I felt like I already fitted in.
On Saturday they took me for a drive around the farm to meet the cows! It was pretty cool! I think I'm going to love living on a farm!
It was Hunters birthday on Monday so we went to the Zoo on Sunday with some of the family. It was really nice to be invited and I had such a good day. I met Tessa's brother and sister and Cam's parents and 2 of his brothers, he has another brother who lives in Scotland. After the zoo we went to the pub! An english pub! The zoo was in Hamilton which is about an hour away.
I have started working now and I've been working from 6.15am sometimes only for an hour but one day I worked until 12 then I'd have a few hours off and work again until 5. I just have to get the kids up and dressed and fed then we can play! Sometimes I have to do morning snacks, lunch, afternoon snacks and dinner depends what time i'm working until but it's all pretty easy. Hunter and Libby are great kids and really well behaved and super super cute! The think I'm finding hardest at the moment is nappy changing!!! Libby has had some pretty smelly nappys!!!! Oh well at least it's good practice for when I have my own!
We took a walk to the cow shed yesterday and saw some of the new born calves. There were some twins that had been born yesterday! The calves were super cute! I've said I want to see a calf being born!
I have this weekend off so I'm planning on catching up with some sleep and tomorrow I am getting a car! I have to go with Tessa to pick it up then I have to drive it back!!! We are getting it from Hamilton. I went for a little drive with Tess tonight so she could see how my driving is and she was pleased I think I did pretty well apart from reversing but hopefully I won't have to do that too much!!
Oh today me and Hunter did some baking! I've been desperate to bake! I found some receipes that only use 4 ingredients so we made cheese and onion muffins they were yummy!!
I met a really nice girl Laura from England at Orientation and we have been speaking every day which is nice. We are sharing our stories and experience!
I have been speaking to some au pairs that live near me so hopefully I will met up with them soon. On Tuesday there is a christmas in July meal which I am going to go to so I will meet people there.
I'm pretty much in the middle of nowhere so should save plenty of money while I'm here.
There are loads of horses in Cambridge and a few of Tessa's friends have horses so hopefully I will be able to do some riding soon!
Most nights I have dinner with my Cam and Tess and Tess cooks it! Sometimes I help or if they are having something that is mainly meat I will cook something for myself but still eat with them. I tend to watch tv with them as well.
This experience is so much different to when I was in America but I think I am liking this so much more.
:-) xx
