Got out of bed a bit easier today. We got ready and packed all our stuff into the car and then went for a massive walk! We walked along Middleton Beach and along the board walk toward Albany. On Middleton Beach i swear i hav never seen as many one legged seagulls before in my life let alone all in the one place, must be some sort of defect in seagulls there! It was a really nice crisp sunny morning, perfect for a walk. Didnt really think we were going to walk for so long but i'd asked John and he said to walk right into the town. So even tho we kind of finished walking past the coast and ended up walking along side a sort of industrial area, we thought there might be something to see further along, but there wasn't. However we did make it all the way round and felt quite proud of ourselves, would hav been good to know just how far we did walk tho. Am gonna have very toned legs by the time i get home with all this walking!! We actually spoke to a guy who was like u guys hav walked for ages and we were like yeh, thinkin we must hav looked knackered, but he was like i saw u round the other side of town!
So eventually we did leave Albany and drove towards Pemberton. Our 1st stop was at Denmark where we stopped for a bit of lunch and had loads of seagulls surrounding us looking for food. I just cant stand seagulls they r such horrible creatures, ew! We then headed to the Tree Top Walk. The Tree Top Walk is set in a forest of kauri and tingle trees. The walk is 600m long and goes up to 40m above the ground. Its not exactly wot i expected, the walk isn't actually attached to the trees it just takes u up into the tree tops. Its made on tall poles with suspension bridges between them. Its kind of freaky that the walk totally moves when u r walking on it, not entirely sure i liked that! There is also another walk to do on the ground. This was much more comfortable for me! It makes u feel really small wandering about below these giant trees. The tingle trees r really cool because even tho the middle of them becomes hollowed out from fungi or fire they still grow. We even got to stand in the middle of the trees and one of them u could walk right thru, its totally amazing!
We then drove to Pemberton via Walpole. It was so strange to be driving thru Australia and seeing all these giant forests around me! I'm so used to seeing Australia being very yellow and dry looking while this looked really alive! Makes a nice change!
When we got to Pemberton we went to the only hostel here for a couple of beds (we havnt booked ahead cause everyone told us its off season so we wont need to book) but the guy was like i only hav one queen size bed left if u want it. We ended up taking it and its so nice and was only about $5 more than we would pay normally for a bed in a dorm room. We're actually staying in a wee cottage in a room by ourselves, i do hav to share a bed with Fiona but am sure i can cope with that lol! Its so nice here and nothing like being in a hostel. There is a dorm room with 6 people in it, a family room with just an older couple in (who we chatted to in the evening) and then me and Fiona in the double room. We hav a kitchen and a lounge with a tv. The bathroom is also pretty big with a shower big enough for 2 at least lol!! I deffo need to stay in more places like this!
