So started my tour thru the Kimberleys up to Darwin this morning. Meant i had 5.45am start which i cant say i was too chuffed at but managed to do it. There was 9 of us on this tour; me, Irene, Kate, Sophie, Thomas, Margie, Lansie, Linn and Seth (the goblin). We headed off into the heart of Jandamarra country, passing over the Fitzroy River and stopped to see the Prison Boab Tree. These trees r really crazy looking! This one had been used for chaining prisoners to when they were transporting them to prison.
From here we headed down the Gibb River Road, basically this is a dry river bed that u can drive along in the dry season, pretty bumpy! We stopped off at Windjana Gorge where we took a wee walk and actually saw a fresh water croc, eeek!!! After here we went to Tunnel Creek which is, surprisingly or not, a creek which runs thru a cave/tunnel. It was quite cool wading thru it, we saw some bats and Sharpy (tour guide) expained the story of the Jandamarra people.
We then headed to our bush camp where we spent our 1st nite under the Kimberley sky. While the guys were throwing the swags and firewood down from the top of the bus Seth, the total tube, managed to fall thru the emergency exit on the roof! Meant there was glass all over the inside of the bus and covered the seats. It was Kate's birthday so Sharpy made a birthdya cake for her in the camp fire which was pretty cool! I hired a sleeping bag again as I didnt hav my own but I must say that this 1 was nowhere near as warm as the 1 I was in before, just meant I needed a few more layers on to sleep in and keep me warm. I love sleeping under the stars, it looks so amazing and clear, u can see everythin!
