Me and Beccy had our touristy day in Canberra. We headed off to the parliament buildings, both old and new. We did the guided tour of the new parliament which was pretty interesting and we now know that Canberra was only built because Sydney and Melbourne couldnt decide who should be the capital so they decided to build somewhere new in the middle. I must admit it is weird being in a place that is so planned, has this weird feeling to it. After we'd finished looking around the parliament and going up onto the roof we ended up rolling down the roof of the parliament! Now for those of you who dont know the parliament roof is covered in grass and just looks like a hill. Me and Beccy were just gonna run down the hill but then i had a brain wave that we should roll down it instead! It was so much fun, u wouldnt believe! However for some reason Beccy struggles to roll in a straight line which makes it even funnier!
After that we wandered down to the old parliament building and had a look about down there. We even got to dress up in the speakers outfit and sit in the chair which was pretty funny! One of the workers did let us have a wee nosey in the dining room even tho it was shut off to the public which was really nice.
After we finished at the parliament buildings we took the bus over to the War Memorial. Its a georgous building and really big compared to other ones. They have a sort of museum in there as well which is really good. Didnt hav time to see it all but we saw all the World War One stuff which was really sad, these things always make me want to cry. They have really good models of war scenes, it makes it so much more imaginable than a picture would. We also had a wee look at the planes they have which were used in the war, these things are incredible! As we were there so late we saw the closing ceremony. They had a lone piper come out and I was so scared he was gonna play Amazing Grace as I would just hav burst into tears, luckily enough he played Flowers in the Field which did make tears come into my eyes but luckily enough I managed not to properly cry!
Me and Beccy made an awesome chicken salad for dinner that nite which was well yummy! I ended up having an early night while Beccy sat up with some guys from the hostel adn the girl in our room.
Oh and we also got in touch with that guy in the morning to see about a job and he said he'd give us a call back later. When he did fone he said he hadnt managed to get us anything but he would pick us up tomorrow and atke us up anyway to see if we can find anything.
