On route for Birthday (16th August)
We had a lovely lazy morning this morning. We slept in until 8am and left just before 10, stopping at a grocery store on the way to buy some essentials - bread, milk, chocolate biscuits and Danish pastries...
It was strange driving into Sweden. The skyline was covered in the haze (which we later wondered if it was salt haze). It was difficult to make out buildings but we were able to get some photos. We were only in Sweden ever so briefly....but we can say we have been there ;-)
We sat in queue at the ferry enjoying a cup of tea and the yummy pastry. It was very nice. Once on board we found a table and chatted amongst ourselves. After some time dad went to buy a plate of hot chips while we made some sandwiches. After lunch Andrew and I headed into the on board shop and bought our magnet...we've bought one nearly every place we have been. So many things a frightfully expensive and we found the magnets to be within our budget. We have found some really unique ones too.
The ferry was 4 hours and we were glad to somewhat see land (was still very hazy). We disembarked and began driving to Binz. We were meeting Derk and Cindy and their 3 girls, Alana, Giselle and Erica. It was so lovely seeing them and meeting the girls. Binz is the German 'Gold Coast'. After dinner (which was awesome, they had bought all these different German sausages to try) we went for a walk down to the beach. Still strange to walk along the beach at 8:30pm. It was quite a beautiful spot and I can see why everyone likes to go there.
Derk and Cindy were wonderful in helping us find somewhere to stay tonight so we are heading for our hotel. We won't get there for another half an hour (10:30pm at the moment) so the bed will be greatly appreciated when we get there.
Andrew has been teaching me some cool things on the camera as we've been driving along. He's driving.
