Our third and final visit to Vancouver and we loved it. Day one consisted of doing the 'grouse grind', i.e climbing Grouse mountain instead of getting the cable car. Bit not before we bumped into the Vancouver half marathon, which meant lots of freebies. waffles, fruit, muffins, don't mind if i do!! then getting on the ferry across to North Vancouver, we bumped into the south african guys we'd met in Squamish, such a small world. But the great thing about attempting that silly Mount Rundel, is that anything after that has seemed easy in comparison. Well I wouldn't saw it was easy, just a lot shorter but we did still sweat buckets. We got to the top and it says if you can do it in an hour and a half, then your fit. 1.5hours on the dot, go us! So we couldn't see a thing when we were climbing as we were just surrounded by forest, but at the top, we could see all of Vancouver :) Also they had lots of activities going on at the top too. They had a great lumberjack show, a bird show and even two grizzly bears; one entertaining everyone by playing with his ball. A day well spent in Vancouver.
The next day, we met up with Manja and walked to Granville island. A famous little market place and dockyard, but we didn't end up spending too long there was we were knackered. Got into bed for a power-nap; 4 hours later we are wide awake. And I decide to drink a cup of coffee or two, which resulted in me not being able to sleep a wink!! Oops, ya live and learn. Also we'd previously stayed in Samesun Vancouver and it has been absolutely roasting, as it just had a fan, so decided we'd move to HI Vancouver as it has aircon. Great idea and we obviously could sleep better, but what we didn't realise is that it didn't have a kitchen. Just a microwave, toaster and kettle. So Kenny used his imagination and boiled us some eggs in the kettle, the things you learn when travelling.
The next day we visited the famous Stanley Park and it did not disappoint. Lots of people cycle it but we once read on a t-shirt, 'if you've got the time, you can walk anywhere.' So that's just cedar we did. You see Vancouver from another angle, the lion bridge, lots of Canadian geese, totem poles, parks, and the beaches. Woo hoo, got some sunbathing in. Then to great us at the end were the funniest and happiest statues ever! You couldn't help but laugh at them. Great wee end to the day. Spent the evening packing, ready for the big train journey tomorrow.
The next day consisted of taking a lonely planet recommended tour,
'Eriks city tour and Lynn canyon suspension bridge'. Great because it meant we didn't have to do the hard navigation work, that Kenny and I always get on soo well doing. Great wee day out and met lots of lovely people, saw a different side to Vancouver again and saw and learnt a little about China town that we have passed in so many cities.
