I have now left Monkey Mia and am in Alice Springs and completed the first 3 days of my trip. I'm not to keen on Alice to be honest, there are too many aboriginals for my liking! I went for a walk when I got here and got shouted out by a car going past! I met a girl called Anna who was doing the same trip as me which was good as the trip is split up in to 3 different trips so I was thinking that not many people would do the whole 9 days.
I was really sad when I left Monkey Mia, I cried when I said goodbye to Jack!! I left on Western Exposure. It only cost me $50. We went to Hamlin Pool which I didnt get to do while at MM so that was good, we also went to an animal scantuary and I got to hold a baby Kangaroo!! Then we stayed at a farm stay which was a bit crap really!!
I got to Perth and met up with Debbie and Richard from MM. We went to Hogs Breath Cafe for dinner. I'd not been to one before and it was really nice the portions were huge! Debbie an I went shopping the next day, oh my god it was so nice to be in civiliastion. We had a nice greasy Mc Ds! I'd not had one for 4 months it was so so good! We literally shoped all day!! We went to Coles and I was like a kid at christmas it was so good to have a choice of what to buy and it was so cheap!
The first part of the trip was really good, I was up at 5 on Monday morning and was picked up at 6.20 to start my trip. Anna was on my trip so we sat together, we met a few others that were doing the full 9 days which was good. Our first stop was to a camel farm. I didn't bother riding a camel as I am going to do it in Broome with Jack. We drove for miles and got to Yilara which is the town that Ayres Rock is in. We went to camp and had lunch, then headed out to The National Park. We went to Kata Juta (The Olgars) and did a walk up and around them, the view was amazing. Then it was time to see the main attraction AYRES ROCK!! We went and watched the sunset, it was crazy there were loads of other buses and tour groups there. We had champagne and nibbles! It wasn't a very good sunset though which was ashame. Then we headed back to camp for dinner. Our guide cooked for us, I tried camel sausages, they just tasted like normal sausages really!
Our accommodation was fixed tents but you could sleep in a Swag under the stars if you wanted, so I did that! I was a little scared of animals and things but it was fine, it was really hot but I was scared to undo my sleeping bag! I didnt really get much sleep, we had to be up at 430 the next morning to watch the sunrise at Ayres Rock and when our guide came to wake us up I was already awake and got straight up which is not like me!! The sunrise wasn't very good either because it was really cloudy! We then headed to the base of Ayres Rock so that we could walk around it. OH MY GOD it was huge!!! It took 2 and a half hours to walk around it! I didnt expect it to be as big as it was! What you see is only a 1/3 of it as the rest is underground!!
Then we headed to Kings Canyon, Our guide dropped us at Kings Canyon resort, it was raining so we couldnt really do much! We all headed to the bar and were sat in there then it started really raining and there was thunder and lightening and we were all really cold. We got picked up and headed out to our camp when we got there it was really wet and the ground was not muddy but sandy and slushy it was horrible, I had flip flops on and kept getting stuck! We had a really nice dinner, it was a chicken stew, it was perfect for the weather!! The rain was getting really bad and we didnt no if we would be able to make it out of Kings Canyon the next day because of the roads flooding. I was going to swag it again but decided it probably wasnt a good idea!!! The rain stopped during the night so we managed to get out ok. We headed for Kings Canyon but unfortunatly we couldnt do the Kings Canyon walk as if it had started raining again we wouldnt have got out!! Which was a real shame but we got to do a walk around the Creek which was ok. It was then time for the long journey back to Alice Springs.
In the evening we all went our as group to another hostel called Annies Place where we had dinner for $5! I had pizza and shared some wedges with another girl and it was really filling.
I met some really nice people on this trip, Anna, Tyla, Mitzy, Drew, Leah, Laura, Yumi and a few others, most of these are doing the full 9 days as well so thats pretty cool.
