We have gone into a dorm and taken the plunge to stay at a hostel!!!!. I am so scared. I have no idea why. But two weeks of just me and jess is now about to be interrupted by 8 other people. I don't know how I feel about this? What if someone replaces my BFF status to jess? I'm probably more concerned with the fact that someone may steal something out of my bag (actually they can steal stuff out of my bag but I swear if someone steals jess's ghds I will go crazzzzy)
So SPICY TAO. You are so hidden we couldn't find you for nearly two hours even though you were literally 10 minutes away from our resort, please in the future could you enlarge the signs to your hostel so no one else will ever throw (what I've now called the jess aged 2 foot stomping tantrum) a complete paddy in the middle of the road. In jess's defence we were in 38degree heat with huge rucksacks and our backpacks as front packs... But yeahhhhh we walked past your turning twice!!!! And when we have to walk up a hill with a third of our body weight on our backs... Well it leads to tantrums all round....
So we eventually found spicy tao backpackers hence the cover picture. I was so excited that we actually found it that I made jess stand under the sign and take a typical tourist "we made it and never thought we would" shot. We checked in got given some sheets to make our bed. This led to a huge amount of LOL's (i actually nearly wet myself) at me and jess trying to make our beds think mummy S and D clearly spoil us a bit too much.... Luckily no one was in the dorm at this stage with us so the fact that were both 24 and struggle to make out own beds can remain a private joke which you lovely people have the inside knowledge on.
We were sharing our dorm with some great people and literally didn't have time to get changed put of our sweaty clothes before jake, Alex, Rebekah, Oscar and Rory asked if we wanted to go cliff diving. We got told we had to go on a bit of a trek for 45mins to reach the place where we were cliff diving from which sounded ok to us..... Until we started walking practically through the jungle! up sand banks and over fallen trees. I have been known to go to the gym in a previous life but never have I sweated the way I sweated on this walk. At one stage I thought I was dying. Me and jess also chose to do the walk in style - meaning we wore flop flops BIG MISTAKE. The results of this involved sliding down sand banks, having no balance, our shoes constantly falling off, Kim's shoes ending up in the bin when we got home and sore feet. So After walking for 45 minutes (which felt like a lifetime) in what I can only describe to you as horrendous conditions we reached a small bay where we were the only people. Everyone (except me and Rebekah) were keen to get cliff diving so off we set over some rocks and huge cringe moment here but I am not and I repeat not a rock climber. I'd love to be.... Always thought that I had it in me to be honest - adore climbing walls but when your up on a cliff on a rock and you can't move because your so scared you know it's not for you..... Probably not one of my finest moments but luckily everyone was lovely.
We had a night out with the spicy lot which meant buckets on the beach, fishbowl and of course are 'one day' anthem with the lyrics, tune and dance routine stuck in mine and jess's mind for the rest of eternity :) I got Ill when I was at spicy. No matter how much I love asia it does not love me, I spent an afternoon on the beach with waves of sickness and retired early to bed. Thank you to rhilian our delightful, funny and lovely Dutch friend who looked after me and made me feel better. (i will spell check your name later -i promise) Jess had an amazing day snorkelling with everyone the next day and saw lots of amazing, tropical fish! Apparently there were tonnes of fish and even though she came back with a rather sunburnt back she had been able to snorkel at a number of different areas around the island and had a brilliant day. Kho tao was a really chilled out place for us after two cities cambodia hence why we spent most of our days on the beach, getting oil massages and reading.
There were so many great moments at spicy that I have probably bored you with and then this happened and that happened so I've included some of our highlights below:
1) SAMs snoring clearly out biggest highlight. It kept us awake/woke us every night. Snoring this loud is an achievement
2) how jake dealt with SAMs snoring if you didn't wake to the snore itself you woke to jake thumping SAMs bunk from underneath
3) the night someone f***ed with the aircon. (Same night I was Ill....) I awoke sweating and saying I was hot pretty much all night (I thought I was delirious with a sick bug) but nope turns out everyone was hot cause someone had turned the air conditioning to fan
4) hearing the one day song and learning the dance routine. It has now become our travelling song
5) telling jake he looked like David plaitt from corrie -he looks identical!!!
6) a dog kept following Alex on the beach; wouldn't leave him alone. After Alex getting incredibly annoyed and trying to lose the dog (which he named daisy) we heard some girls cooing over daisy..... Looking over Alex was petting/cuddling the dog.... Turns out if you want to pull pretending a random dog is your pet is the way forward: daisy stayed with us for the rest of the afternoon.
7) Rebekah's card trick - had me mesmerised.
8) realising we didn't know any card games.... We need to google some for our next hostel experience,
9) kim trying to learn how to fire dance with tennis balls on strings (please note there was nothing on fire) and hitting herself in the head with a tennis ball. Classy
