We woke up on the overnight train at about 6am, which is the earliest we had woken up in the whole month so far. Had breakfast on the train with some interesting coffee.
When we got of the train at Nong Khai, we had to get a tuk tuk to the border to depart from Thailand, then get a bus over the Friendship Bridge to Laos immigration to get a visa on arrival. This took forever but we finally got out the other side. Got a very long tuk tuk ride to Vientiane and picked a random name from a list of guesthouses I had and headed there. Thankfully it was nice, though probably not the cheapest we could have found. We checked in and booked our bus to Vang Vieng the next day and had dinner at this nice cafe down the road, which I have forgotten the name of, its something like Sabaydee's. Had a club sandwich which was more like a tower.
We then went into the Lao National Museum, which basically was about all the fighting that had happened and was totally biased against America. They really don't like America!
We had a look down the road as there were supposed to be some temples down there, but they were closing as we got there. Everything in Laos seems to close about 3ish, it was similar in Thailand I think.
Anyway, we had dinner at the same place we had lunch, the waiter guy remembered us (probably because we spent the whole time trying to learn thank you in Lao and kept getting it wrong). Went back to the hostel, watched a random film called The Accidental Tourist and then Closer (I needed my Jude Law fix) as the hotel had cable!
