Yesterday we got the bus up to Vang Vieng, which is little mountain town four hours north of Vientiane. We arrived at 2pm and checked into the Babylon Guesthouse. We have this massive room, with three double beds and a bathroom and we paid less than two pund each per night. Its got amazing views and a tv and bar downstairs.
We had lunch and wandered round the nearby shops for a bit. Everything is stupidly cheap. Bought myself some sunglasses and a pair of addidas cropped trousers each costing between 2 and 3 pound. We also booked a half day tour for the next day, seeing some local villages, caves and going tubing.
In the evening we decided to have dinner out and then get very drunk on the ridiculously cheap alcohol. There are tonnes of restaurant/bars down the road with our guesthouse. They are good beacuse they are basically platforms with cushions on so you can lie down. They also show dvds of tv programmes, mostly Friends, The Simpsons or Little Britain.
Dinner was nice, we had two cocktails each and for some reason they gave us an extra one free. We went to most of the places down that road. We accidently ended up in a place that sold magic mushroom pizza! It smelt of dope so we decided that it must be some kind of drug den, so we scarpered!
By the time we got back, Kate was wasted. She was flying around the room with the sheet on her head pretending to be a ghost! We rang Holly (who sounded a bit scared) and then got told off for being too loud by the guesthouse people!
This morning, Kate woke up with a hangover. Thankfully it disappeared quickly as we went caving! In this tour we got tuk tuks to this little village and went in a small cave called Elephant Cave (as it had a rock shaped like an elephant in it) and then to this village next to it.The views from here were phenomenal, I have never been anywhere as nice. On the other side of the village was the cave that we were going tubing in. We were still not too sure what tubing was but there were rubber rings involved so we had a vague idea! We got into the rings and pulled ourselves into the caves by a rope. We went through the cave in the rings and then went through a bit of the cave on foot (well crawling really) which needless to say I did not enjoy and now my knees hurt. I have never been so relieved to get out a cave in all my life. Kate went swimming for a bit and the guide taught me some Lao, which I have now completely forgotten..
We headed back to town, had showers (we were covered in clay!), lunch and did some more shopping.
Tonight we're going out for dinner and to watch some more Friends. Though with much less alcohol involved than yesterday!
