We arrived in Luang Prabang yesterday after a fun five hour bus journey in the sweltering heat. By the time we arrived it was about 3pm. We found a place to stay finally, in a wooden guest house which did look like it was about to burn down. We attempted to find our way around Luang Prabang with a map on the back of a leaflet for a bar, that wasn't a good plan as we got completely lost. We ate in the first restaurant we saw and then attempted to find the night market. We couldn't decide if the couple of stalls that we saw was actually the market (it wasn't) so we went in a restaurant for a drink, however it was one of those cook your own food things as the woman didn't realise we weren't eating and bought out all this stuff for us, and got really angry when we said we weren't eating. She was shouting and pointing so we made a quick exit! Needless to say after that we were a bit wary of Luang Prabang.
This morning we had to find the Lao Airlines office to pick up our tickets to get to Chaing Mai. With our trusty map we managed to walk almost out of town before getting a tuk tuk which took us to the office, which is when we realised we had actually walked past it earlier. Anyway after that we actually knew which road was which so we weren't lost anymore.
The office was shut for lunch when we got there so we went to a Buddhist temple (Wat Visoun) that was nearby. After getting the tickets we went to the Royal Palace Museum. Kate had a vest top on so she had to cover her arms up with this shirt which made her look like an old woman, she won't let me show anyone the picture though. The minute she put it on, she saw a fit guy which was amusing! As we came out we saw the people that were on our tour in Vang Vieng. Very random.
We went down to the Mekong River but couldn't get down to the water as the banks were too steep. Then we walked up 300+ steps of Phousi Mountain, which is quite randomly placed in the middle of the city. The views from the top were amazing. There were also Buddha statues and an imprint of Buddha's foot..or so it says.
We had dinner at the Lao Lao Gardens in order to spend all our remaining money. I had spaghetti carbonara again and we had pancakes for dessert which were lush. They also gave us a free shot!
