Our plane landed in a cold Munich on the morning of Wednesday 24 October. We got through immigration without a problem (everything was super organised) and, after getting some advice and a tourist map, we were soon on our way into the city. It was still a few hours before our apointment with the UK embassy representative, so we found a nearby place to have a coffee and some delicious German pastries. We couldn't get over how clean everything was and how few people there were - it felt eerily like a ghost town compared to India! Later, we had our interview with quite a cool lady and then got on a train towards Stuttgart where we were meeting Kevin's brother, Jason. Along the way they split our train without letting us know - turns out we were in the wrong half so we missed our connection and ended up getting quite lost :-/ We eventually arrived late that night and walked with Jason from the station back to Monique's aunt Dagmar's nearby apartment, where we had a quick dinner and a catch-up before heading off to bed. It was such a blessing to be able to stay in a home again, where we were to just let our guard down and recharge a bit.
Thursday we slept in a bit and then all sat around the table with coffee and breakfast while we tried to plan our time in Europe. Later, after some amazing crepes from a small stall in town, we walked down the road (past the Porsche factory) in search of some internet, which we eventually found at a McDonalds. Unfortunately it was a bit dodgy so we didn't really get much done :-/ and spent the evening just chatting in the apartment before making dinner and going to bed.
Friday we got an early start and caught a local train into the city in the hope of getting some more admin done. Frustratingly, decent internet was again difficult to find (?!) but we did manage to do a bit more planning. Even though it was freezing cold, we also spent some time walking around the city, which was pretty cool - all the buildings are so old and beautifully built. We still couldn't get over how empty it felt though! We got back to the apartment just as the sun was setting and spent the evening just relaxing.
Saturday we woke up to snow!! The first snow of the season had fallen in the night and continued to fall for the rest of the day. We played around for a while outside before heading back into the city to continue with the admin :-/ We decided to buy a rail pass and arranged some ticket reservations, before heading back to the apartment to tidy up and pack.
Sunday we were up early to finish packing. We had one last cup of coffee in warm comfort and then set off into the cold towards to train station, all eager to cram as much of Europe into the next two months as possible - starting with Vienna, Austria!
