Our train up from Warsaw finally pulled into Vilnius main station in the late evening on Tuesday 6 November. It was cold, dark and raining when we arrived, so we were glad that our hostel was just a short walk away. We dropped our bags in the room and walked back to the shopping center in the rain to buy some groceries for dinner which Monique transformed into another delicious meal :-) Afterwards we did a bit of admin before heading off to bed.
Wednesday we were up pretty early to find it cold and raining outside :-/ But since this was our only day for sightseeing, we bundled up as warmly as we could and trudged resolutely towards to old town. We enjoyed exploring some of the old, winding cobbled streets, finally reaching the main square. Afterwards we visited the Amber Museum (the region is known for its amber), the excellent Money Museum and wandered around the old university, stopping in at the beautiful old bookshop. Later we walked across the bridge to the 'newer' part of town to look around, which was also very impressive. That night we ate dinner again at the hostel, did some more admin and collapsed into bed.
Thursday we were up early again to pack and check-out. We grabbed a few snacks at the supermarket and, after a quick chat with the bus driver, were allowed to board the bus :-) and soon we were on our way to Riga!
