Our train pulled into Berlin Oestbahnhof in the late afternoon on Friday 23 November. The journey from Amsterdam had gone pretty smoothly apart from a short-ish delay at a tiny station somewhere in Germany while we waited for a delayed connection :-/ Fortunately, our hostel was just a short walk up the road, which meant that we were quickly able to dump our bags and hit the supermarket across the street. After another one of Monique's delicious meals, we spent the rest of the evening doing a bit of admin and otherwise just relaxing.
Saturday we woke up early, ready for a full day of sightseeing. On the way to the metro we picked up a few things to eat and then, after eventually getting our metro ticket sorted, we got ourselves to the city centre. We had breakfast in Tiergarten, the main city park, while we waited to start our tour from the nearby Brandenburg Gate. We saw all of the main touristy things and learned a bit about the history of the nazi and communist regimes. Later that afternoon we got to watch the sunset from the observation deck of a really tall building in the middle of the city - I can't remember the name, but thanks Barbara - the view was amazing! On the way home we stopped at the Ritter Sport store - a chocolate shop that sells just about every flavour imaginable! We didn't come away empty handed ;-)
Sunday we packed up pretty early and made the short walk back down to the train station, picking up some things for breakfast on the way. We were a bit sad to be leaving so soon - It felt like there was a lot more to see and do in Berlin (hopefully another time.) We found our train easily enough and soon we were on our way southwards to Dresden on our way to Prague!
