Kevin and Joannie on tour
We had already had one travel hiccup on this trip when the Canadian railways threatened to strike and we had to cancel our tickets. But that was not the end of it....we travelled down to the airport with Philip as he was also flying away for the week. When we reached check in, the machine would only let Joan get a boarding pass. This felt like groundhog day as this had happened at Christmas when we were flying to Puerto Montt. The lady at the check-in desk took us to one side and explained that the plane had been changed for a smaller model and was overbooked. We were told we could travel on a later flight. The reason why we had chosen this flight was because it was not overnight. It left Toronto about nine and arrived early evening at Heathrow, where we would get a good night's sleep before driving north. If we both took a later plane, then Kevin would have to drive north without sleep. So rather then travel together, Joan asked if Kevin could have her seat and she would fly out later. This was done and we said goodbye to one another. Kevin then flew on to London whilst Joan was given a hotel room and some food vouchers. On arrival at London, Kevin made his way to the hotel we had booked. It seemed we had booked the wrong night and the hotel would not let Kevin switch. He then had to find another hotel. He went to a nearby Ibis which was closed but they found him a room in another Ibis at Heathrow.Joan caught a bus to a Holiday Inn where she had a lonely breakfast. Though she ordered the veggie option, it came with meat. This was soon changed. Finally Joan caught the overnight flight to Heathrow and met up with Kevin at the hotel where they had parked. We picked up the meezers and Kevin made it in to work for the afternoon.
