Saturday 8th August -am Stow on the Wold
We went up the A429 for about 8 miles to the hilltop village of Stow on the Wold. It's quaint like all of the villages in the Cotswolds and we originally tried to book our Cotswold accommodation here but after seeing the village up close and personal we were both agreed that we are really glad that we are in Bourton on the Water where our accommodation is right in the middle of the township.
We had coffee at a cute wee coffee shop where some people have to duck to get through doorways, where the toilets were up a steep set of stairs, more ducking and the floor felt a little dozey too. We looked in all the little shops, some of which sort of meander through rooms and passageways. Most were very good quality and there were lots of tea and coffee shops and eateries.
We were looking to go to Kenilworth Castle and set off as it showed on our little local map as just being a bit up the road. Upon closer examination we both missed the arrow showing that Kenilworth was in fact off the map. Oh well we decided that seeing we were this far that we would go to Startford upon Avon for lunch. There was little traffic going in our direction but on two occasions there were very long queues of car waiting to go someplace south in the opposing direction.
