Monday 10th August pm - Kettering to Peterborough
We drove the remaining distance and I would hate to have had a guess at how many round a bouts we went round on this leg. Perhaps 30?? Jannie is getting the hang of our GPS (MaryII) as we arrived to the trumpet sound that she makes when we arrive anywhere that has been typed in and were a mere 20 metres short of the exact address. We checked in for our one night here and went for a walk down the main street to the centre of the town.
Yet here was another town with one more huge wide main shopping area with no vehicles and plenty of huge trees. We walked on until we came to the cathedral. What a huge building and we went in to have a look. It was tall, big, wonderful with huge windows up three levels and the organ was playing and the choir was singing.
Jan remembered that Kathryn of Arrigon was buried here so she asked the attendant if Kathryn was buried here and he said "Yes she is still here" Lovely I thought so we went looking for her grave site.
We eventually found it and the screeds of information that was on the walls and about her and her life with Henry VIII. When Henry got rid of all the churches from England in order to rid himself of the Pope, the Bishop of the Cathedral gave the Cathedral to Henry and Kathryn persuaded him to keep it. She was a very saavy woman.
We loved the Cathedral and all of the old outbuildings that were around the outside. Well worth coming here Stef!
