Tuesday 1st September - Bus Trip to Piran
We got on board the bus and had to put up with the loud and a couple of pushy Americans who wanted the front seats.
The young guide introduced himself and started a very informative narration about Slovenia and Koper as we headed for Izola. Koper is also known by Capodistria which was the Italian name for the place. Koper has had people living there since 3000BC although not a lot is known of the people but there have been numerous races capture the town throughout the ages although it was originally an island. The Greeks, the Turks, The Gauls, The Venetians, The Romans to name a few,
We didn't stop at Izola which was quite a small town and is one of three towns on the Slovenian Coast that is only 42 kms long. A part of Slovenia is back from the Adriatic Sea behind a coastal strip of land that belongs to Italy and is only about 5-7kms wide.
After being told of the recent history involving the cessation of Yugoslavia and the wars between the nations that wanted to become independent the bus arrived in Piran.
We had 2 hour to-do as we pleased.
