Monday 21st September - Walking Tour. Montpellier
We did a walking tour by ourselves of the shopping streets and Jannie got a couple that she needed. We went into the equivalent of our $2 shops and boy the bargains that we could have come home with if we had the room.
The true centre of Montpellier is the oval shaped plaza that is dominated by the Comedie Opera House and is the larget pedestrian area in the whole of Europe and this was designed in the 18th century.
Of course there is a fountain here called Les Trois Graces but this one is only a copy as the real one dating back to 1773 is in the Opera House.
There is an Arc de Triomphe which was built at the end of the 17th century by Loius XIV and is built where the ramparts of the city used to be.
We went to the Monoprix to get some fruit and stuff for nibbles and breakfast and then caught the tram back to our stop and went back to have a rest.
