Sunday 31st December - New Years Eve

We crossed the border into Zimbabwe today and went to The Rocks at Harare. You have to change 20 dollars at the border as you must be able to show the police a receipt if you are ever stopped. The bank rate is 250 Zim dollars to 1 US. However, on the black market the rate was 2,300 Zim dollars to 1 US.

It's ridiculous that the government thinks they can set the rate as the market will always dictate the rate. Apparently recently they just lopped off the last 3 0's from each of the notes. So really the money isn't worth the paper it's printed on. It's also the first time I've ever seen bank notes with an expiry date on them! Hilarious.

We were on our own at the campsite for New Years Eve which was a good job given some of the costumes! Check out the photo's for proof!
